First, this is a purely hypothetical question. And when I ask it, I’m not talking about quitting for the current expansion then coming back for the next one or just going on a few months hiatus.
When I ask this question, I’m asking what would cause you to quit WoW, meaning quit the current expansion and never come back, regardless of what future expansions offered. Basically, what would cause you to leave and never look back?
The only way I could quit is if my body no longer allows me to play, or Blizzard eventually ends the game and shuts down the servers. I’m too addicted to quit for any personal preference or enjoyment based reason.
Boredom. Not enough content to justify a monthly subscription, or poor quality buggy content isn’t addressed promptly, that impedes the ability to complete goals in the game. Frankly, this expansion is the first to have me seriously considering quitting so early on and it’s exactly due to those reasons.
WoW gives me a lot of entertainment for free (gold sub) so I don’t foresee myself quitting any time soon, but if they were to accidentally reset my account or something silly like that, I probably wouldn’t start over.
The day it goes free to play is the day it dies. It’s main competitor, FF14, has the same business model of sub and expansion price with an even bigger shop. And these are the only two notable and worthwhile MMOs on the market (which is why they’re still the top two).
F2P games are almost all a plague on gaming, with harmful business practices to justify the support.
As for the OP, the only thing that would push me away from the game is if the game no longer exists. 8.3 was the only time I came close to hating the game entirely, and if I survived that, I’m not sure much else will push me out.
Uhhh soo if I left because they removed all collection systems but then they add them back I can’t come back? If I can’t come back when they fix the problem then I wouldn’t quit
Shadowland made me quit.
Quit the game when MoP launched, came back for Legion and stuck with it all the way to Shadowlands but left one month after launch.
This time it’s the end. This game has come too far from its roots and have almost turned into some kind of lobby game. The world is tiny and awful to traverse. I hate the time gating of everything and the speed running introduced in Legion. All the classes I play are a bleak memory of what they used to be. Even in late WoD when I returned just before Legion launched, they were wonderful to play compared to this.
I’m still here because I play Classic, however, I’m not sure how long it will hold my interest.
Already did for about 2 years mid-Legion because of this incessant focus on World Quests. At the time I believe it was the Suramar quest chain locked behind completing a certain number of world quests, but also the multiple campaign missions that were locked behind the timegated mission table.
I’ll quit again eventually and am getting pretty burnt out already. It’s just kind of gross to constantly see the 101 ways they’ve managed to arbitrarily gate something behind time gates and the number of chores they keep tossing into the game. Also the fact that covenants and anima were meant to be purely for cosmetics and the only cosmetics we get are a recolor of the covenant armor or various recolors of questing greens and dungeon blues. I suppose, wrongly, I was thinking they would create more unique cosmetic items that would actually feel rewarding. But maybe they decided to go with basic gear because they knew how obnoxiously grindy they would make the whole system and didn’t want to hear the uproar from the players. This way the rewards are so lackluster few people are complaining because the rewards just aren’t appealing enough to invest that kind of time into these covenant upgrades.
