What would a Bard class be for you?

Build on Rift using power chord as a nuke after building note combos.

I want a class with bard themed abilities that does the following things in respect to Specs:

Tank specs: those who love to be the spotlight of the show, they gain attention(aggro) by being loud and being good at being loud rousing their enemies lust for battle and directing that aggression toward themselves while using music or their instrument to wreak havoc on the enemies eardrums and body, weakening their blows or making them miss due to motile funcions being hindered by their ears ringing.

Healer: A bard who focuses on singing the praises of their party, they mix several notes from their spells and release melodies that either buff, heal, or a combination of both towards their allies, or perhaps even charming their foes making them lose the will to fight against you and lowering their damage.

Damage Dealer: a Ranged musician whose magical instrument converts the notes he plays into devastating spells or something along the lines of it that if played correctly gets on a note streak or some nonesense that buffs him as he damages his foes.

My ideas have been:

-Dervish: melee build that plays like a blend of Outlaw and Enhance.

Hymnal: healer build. Songs are buffs that heal more over time for the duration you stay focused on the target, but also apply a burst heal on application so finding the balance is key.

Anthem: this is the ranged build. Similar to hymnal, their spells leave a dot that ticks up over time but also applies big damage upon application so choosing when to swap is important.

Also, with the return of curses to warlocks, we could get more debuffs here in the bard toolkit. I’d love if they wanted to tweak some abilities to be sound based. Shamans could also provide safety against sound due to controlling the wind?

Yeah, it is “unrealistic” that music will influence a fighter behavior right.
All those Muhay Thai fighters and capoeira fighters are just “acting it”. lol

Carpal Tunnel heroes ftw  Twisting songs may have been bad for their wrists but Bards were incredible for soloing in the hands of the right player.

EQ Bards were a really nice ‘ghetto mez’ class with tons of cool unique utility. Was never my cup of tea to play but I sure liked having them around.

WoW, on purpose, did not design a single support class and instead spread utility amongst everyone.

this was done on purpose to avoid feast-and-famine situation like the EQ1 enchanter; instant group invite for any dungeon crawl ala guk, seb, chardok… but become nothing but a gimped wizard in raids where stuff can’t be CC ( ToV, VT and etc).

Tigole and Furor got that part right ( and that’s coming from someone who did play an enchanter in EQ1)… going from being a literral god and solo’ing stuff that wiped group via charm… to being a buffbot in raid… wasn’t a good design.

Also, since all the utility was concentrated into one class, that left a whole bunch of DPS class with nothing special to them : rogue, berserker, necro, magician, wizard… none of them had a particularly noteworthy utility in raid to justify bringing more than 1 of each and stack whoever did the most damage.

I’d take the more classic D&D route, leaning heavily into and building upon the Inspiration and Vicious Mockery mechanics.

Inspiration and Vicious Mockery are what make Bards unique. Translating that into WoW turns those abilities into buffs for friends and debuffs for enemies. Hand them a bucketful of utility and flair, and you have a fun, useful, party-centric class.

A talent called “Solo Act” could boost personal DPS at the cost of party buffs, letting the bard quest alone when needed.

See I would like that and just the option to use my instrument as a giant weapon like ETC in Heroes of the Storm

I played a bard in Aion, named it Thaelin Thongweaver (lisp implied). I don’t remember much, except that it was a fun class.

However, I kind of get the feeling that a bard’s heal spec would step on the toes of priests, or at least be too similar. (Aren’t the priest abilities songs?) It would be a nice class to have, if they could avoid taking abilities away, like they did with warlocks (Metamorphosis) when they made demon hunters.

I would love it if the Bard class had zero attacks. But, instead, have such powerful buffs that no one notices.

It’d be cool if their class was played, “Guitar Hero,” style. That way, the best bards would really stand out from the rest.

I get the concept of a bard. I just don’t know what niche they would fill and how you could get three specs out of the concept. Maybe they could be bass, alto and soprano? lol

I don’t know about damage and healing, but the tank spec would be agility based, using it’s moves to avoid damage, and distracting the target with the dulcet tones of their music. Weapon: flat top acoustic guitar. Something like this:

What is this? Where am I? Who are you!?

Bards and the people that could play them were awesome to play with in EQ.
IE: Their travel tune was incredible.
Until you got stuck somewhere…
Lag and fall too far behind…
In the middle of a bunch of mobs…
In a huge zone…

Bards were awesome!

I’ll take the Mordhau Bard.

Just sitting there, minding your own business, playing some cool music. But the second a monster or a player aggros or attacks you… they get beat to death with a lute.

Yes, the man wearing full plate armor, armor custom fitted with proper padding and tailored, that he worked out in, trained in for years and who wields a 6 Ft. Zweihander just got beaten to death by a crazy man wearing underwear, a dirty hat, and carrying a lute.

The only Bard I’ve had experience with was the one in EQ. I loved my bard. She was awesome to play. As long as you had lots of room to kite, you could kill anything. They were even better after melody… could twist several songs with no effort.

I was still playing vanilla when I first thought that bard should be a secondary profession. different songs provide different buffs. same as cooking. Some provide self buff, others are group buff.

An entire class for handing out buffs? no thanks.

maybe you could do melee with instruments, ala Pete Townsend (also has cleave), flaming guitars ala Jimmy Hendrix (AoE). Low level start with hollow body strings, move up to brass instruments, then solid body electrics. Tank with a baby grand piano? idk w/e.

Bard should be a profession, a good one, instead of a class.

Wow did do this. Shaman was originally pretty much a buff class. Actually, for some years many specs didn’t bring competitive dps or healing to a raid, they brought key buffs. This meant you would bring exactly one. I like the idea of a bard class, but most fantasy would set that being a pure support buffing kind of character that didn’t do as much pure damage or healing. If the buffs were too strong then bard would be mandatory for content. If they weren’t strong enough, then you’d never bring one outside of incredibly casual content. Blizz is not good enough at balance to thread that needle.
