Why is everyone making fun of ret paladins? I thought warriors were supposed to be meme class until toc? Did something change or?
With the new gear scaling, warriors become middle of the pack next phase.
Ret, a class which has almost nonexistent scaling, will be barely above the tanks and below even the most meme of meme DPS specs such as frost mage and sub rogue.
As ret was never in this state during original wrath, people are asking for a minor buff to help them out then the t10 2set comes out which was quite literally made as a bandaid fix to bring them back up in OG wrath.

Warriors suck just as bad as rets or worse, fury and arms are both absolutely useless specs right now. Paladins are like 17% of the playerbase and still whine that their class isn’t good enough. I’m not here for it.
Both those specs are beating both warrior dps specs right now, in addition to ret. Ret is better than arms. Yet I don’t see warrs whining.

The controversy is a lot of fotm sheep listened to a bunch of dudes on youtube and rerolled Ret without using their brain to factcheck these streamers, and then found out Ret isn’t #1 on WCL. So now they’re very mad.

Arms scales and will be significantly better in ulduar. Ret does not.
Arms is dumpster tier and only played for a debuff that is covered by one of the top dps specs in the game. What?

Arms isnt even played because that same debuff is covered by combat rogues, who are already better than arms anyways and scale phenomenally with arpen.

point is even the total meme specs such as arms, sub, and frost are better then ret, which is paladins one and only DPS spec
yes, ret is currently better then those 3 in naxx, but won’t be in ulduar. that’s the crux of the issue. you’ve got an entire class without any viable dps spec when in OG wrath they had abilities such as seal of blood that gave them competitive DPS

Ret is actually not better than all three, at least not on single target fights.
Top Ret on Patchwerk is 7351 in 1:26.
Top Sub is 7894 in 1:48. At 1:28 in that kill, the Sub Rogue was doing 8.1k.
It’s even worse on Grobbulus. Top Ret is 7.4k and top Sub is 8.4k. Sub was at 9k the same time the Ret finished at 7.4k.
So yeah, even with faster kills the top Rets are getting pummeled by Sub Rogues and Frost Mages. Arms is absolutely garbage as well though. I outdpsed the top Ret in the world on Maexxna on my trashcan Blood DK despite having a much slower kill. It’s bad, going to be worse in Ulduar.
Because this is classic and ret paladins have always been a meme.

They weren’t a meme in original wrath. They were nerfed badly during the expansion. Even seal of blood/martyr was taken away, and that was used in literally every single target fight.
So they released ret, in Classic, with those massive nerfs and without the bandaid fix that they threw in for ICC.

I guess I should clarify. It was just a joke about how ret paladins were a meme for many years. Yes, that changed with Wotlk. I was being tongue in cheek.

“this is Classic and in Classic ret is a meme” is a reasonable take, to be completely honest. This isn’t Wrath and maybe we should stop hoping it will become Wrath.
