What will hapen to retail wow?

Except it wont end. If it is remotely successful they will progress with The Burning Crusade.

Nothings going to change retail. I’d be amazed if it reaped any sort of benefit from classic, other than potential blizzard revenue from new/returning subscriptions.

The people playing classic:

  • are tired of retail
  • saw beta streams and want to try it
  • are returning after they quit
or - want to play classic on the side

Retail has only itself to blame if it collapses. I think you may have some retail-to-classic converts, but the people that get tired of classic were on their last hour anyway - theyre onto a new game once classic interest fades.

Except they’d have to completely redo BC’s endgame because flying is one of those things old schoolers think “ruined” the game. A good chunk of BC’s endgame required flying to do, like Netherwing, Shatari Skyguard, half of Blade’s Edge Mountains, getting to Tempest Keep, etc… Matter of fact nearly every zone in BC had an area that required flying to get to. Like I said, a good chunk of BC’s endgame required flying to participate in and it was actually really fun, but Classic players would demand the game be remade for no flying.

Ive played wow since open beta. Vanilla class gameplay was better than retail as a whole. One example being the global cooldown change.

:+1: Three groups of players – (1) those who will play only classic, (2) those who will play only retail/current WoW, and (3) those who will play both.

And both will survive. Some more obsessive types might want one or the other to fail, but either one failing will be very bad for Blizz.

Those people will just turn off XP and stay level capped at 60 like many guilds have done in the past that wanted to play in a certain section of the game.

Hopefully BFA will die off as it should.

They need to release the direction they were going with retail just derailed and drove off a 50000000000000000 foot cliff.

True, but at the same time, they won’t have a leg to stand on to complain when some of their numbers have grown tired of doing the same content over and over and over and want to move on.

You do realize the reason it’s called global cool down was because almost all abilities were on it in classic…unlike current…right?

Blizzard providing the players with an optional game to play with their subscription isn’t going to do anything to WoW. Classic WoW subscribers are subscribing to WoW in general. It’s all going into the same bucket.
