What were the ugliest armor pieces/sets you remember from Vanilla

… and how much will you miss transmog?

I love transmog, it’s one of the best additions to the game IMO and has really kept my interest all these years even when I felt like the game was at a real low point.

Thinking back on some of the janky looks I had in those days I have decided to use that memory as impetus to finally level and play a Drood in Classic. One of the things that always pushed me off Droods was that I couldn’t really mog them, but now with Classic in mind I view that as a net positive.

Which got me thinking how horrid some of the armors and weapons looked back in Vanilla. I got the light green hunter pvp set which I wore so proudly and made me look like neon vomit. What particular pieces do you remember with LOL/hatred/shame from those days?

And will the look of gear in Classic motivate you at all?

I’d say the Lionheart Helm is a good example. It has the same model as perhaps the first helm you ever get, the Tusken Helm, and also happens to be BiS forever.

Also I will totally not miss xmog because I like being able to know what gear my enemies have in PvP. It can change your entire strategy for a fight.

Sorry I can’t recall a certain piece, but I think I’m one of the few who misses the old “clown suit” collection of random armor pieces.

I was actually pretty bummed out when I learned Wrath would have all the armor type pieces follow the same 4 or 5 visual themes.

This is how I see it. In retail you stand out by not fitting in the game world. Flying around on a swimming spider wearing glowing yellow shoulders and cosmetic store bought helms.

In Classic almost no one will fit into the game world. You’ll have purple armor and yellow capes, red helms, and a mage staff as a warrior. The people who stand out are the ones that look like they earned their place in the world with a uniform armor set that demands a right click inspect.

So no I hope their isn’t xmog. I think it was a bad addition to the game, because in an MMO of constant progression “winning” could arguably not the stats but how cool you look. In that sense, cosmetic stores are pay to win and xmog is a way to cheat other’s out of admiration and it encourages blizzard to not try so hard because in retail, after “their Xth rendition of a class fantasy you should already have acquired what makes you feel like your class”.

Why would I miss this trash feature

True strike shoulders, Warrior T2 shoulders

Anything druid

And a couple of leather armor pieces on orc rogues. Seriously, the leather armor shoulders were NOT designed well to be that large.

Also, on a scale of 1 to 10 how much I’m going to miss Transmog in Classic…

(-4)/10

I rather bang my ankles off of a razor scooter every day before I get into an ice cold shower because my hot water tank is broken in the middle of February in the northeast than play classic with transmog.

Why are u trying so hard?

There is absolutely no point in bringing up transmog here.

I mean, I always thought Warlock T1 looked like a bag of skittles threw up on my Lock… but it also had demon horns for a “helm”… and that alone redeemed it.

Horde Rogue PvP gear had the exact opposite problem where the gear looked decent/cool and then that helm was just an abomination.

Devilsaur gear for basically every physical dps is pretty hideous orange.

and imo every single set from AQ40, and most of the items where just dumb looking… I’ve always hated that entire raid’s aesthetic.

All the armor in vanilla was hideous except for warrior dungeon set.

All the t2 sets before they updated them.

you can just look at someones hp to tell their gear level now

Ah, okay. I did not realize I needed to check with you self appointed gatekeepers first before asking a question.

Or… you could just relax a bit.

Gotta love that Paladin KFC bucket helm (lightforge).

Or you could just use your brain and realize no one wants trashmog.

I’ll never forget the day we went from Scarlet Crusader amazing Winged helms to that. The cries of the Paladins all over the world were worse than that of the world crying about Donald Trump.

Watch out! Salty nerds are on the loose and they demand everyone like exactly what they like.

Here’s a thought… why don’t you quit insulting strangers on the internet about petty things. If your opinion differs from mine IT’S OKAY. Save your nerd rage for the Barrens.
