What was WoD even. I mean did we time travel or somethin?

I mean, wasnt some of those were dead, but we got quests and stuff from them in game. I think one of them say time travel but honestly dont even know for sure. Why did we do that, and how are our time now in bfa different? So many portals and different worlds an aliens whats the deal i dont even know whats going on and Battle for azeroth i went to a robot place and then some seashell zone i hope it was for good reason but i got gear and gold so i guess.

Yes.

Well, technically Garrosh time traveled first with the help of a nutso Bronze Dragon (who wanted to turn the Iron Horde into his own personal world-conquering army; Garrosh killed him but decided it wasn’t a bad idea after all) and used Time Magic :tm: to turn the Dark Portal into a bridge through time. So, when we charged into the Dark Portal to stop him, we went to the past and screwed around there for awhile.

At the end of Warlords, we returned to Azeroth’s present, which mostly wasn’t changed - a few things came with us (mainly Gul’dan, who kicked off the Legion invasion) and we later retrieved the Mag’har from the… future of the alternate past, or something, idk.

The Mag’har character comes from the same timeline visited during WoD. By the time we visit it again it’s fast forwarded 30+ years where Grom is an old man and the Draenei go nuts. My Mag’har is roleplayed as an old man, just seems right lol.

It’s also finally closed off canonically, you can of course still visit Draenor but only for game play reasons. So those crazies won’t be bothering us.

So it is the future of the past. Or something.

I’ll try to give a basic explanation.

The current year in WoW lore is Year 34, with the majority of war’s events happening in Year 33. In lore, the First War is considered to be ‘Year 0’ so it’s been 34 years since the First War.

When Garrosh went to the AU, he arrived 4 years before the First War. He attacked Azeroth 2 years later. We defeated the Iron Horde, left the AU and the portal closed, cutting us off from the Mag’har and the Draenei that we left there.

When the Horde opened the portal to collect on the debt that the Mag’har owed the Horde, the portal was opened without any time changes. So we were opening the portal in Year 33, and going to Year 33 in the AU. Meaning that for the denizens of the AU, 35 years had passed since they last saw us.

Well if we can time travel then why dont we just go back in time and kill sylvannas when she is born and too weak to fight back and save the world and be back before lunch? Wait is sylvannas the bad guy or who is it now?

Alternate timeline.

If you did that, there would be no more blood/high elves, and the forsaken would have been hunted down to the last with nobody to lead them.

I think that ‘future’ was actually an alternate present, given the characters that were alive there. We basically have fem-Thrall at a similar age to Thrall, so it’d have to be pretty close to the present.

Oh, they’ll be bothering us sometime down the line. They didn’t make the Draenei go full on light-zealots not to. Also makes me wonder what ever happened to our Garrisons and Stormshield/Warspear on Ashran. Those places didn’t look to be built for temporary colonization.

That sounds perfectly acceptable.

wait wait slow down people im gettin dizzy

Time travel is possible, but the Bronze Dragonflight heavily restrict its use, because tampering with time causes serious issues. Sure, you might elimate Sylvanas before she is born, but imagine how that might cascade and cause more serious problems down the line. For example:

Without Sylvanas, Alleria would have likely remained in Silvermoon as Ranger General, meaning she would not have assisted Khadgar and Turalyon on Draenor after the Second War.

No Sylvanas means that Silvermoon would have fallen even more rapidly to the Scourge, as she was responsible for harrying their efforts until she died.

No Sylvanas means that the Dreadlords: Balnazzar, Detheroc and Varimathras would not have been defeated by her, and the Scourge/Legion would still control the majority of Lordaeron. Oh and the racist Alliance Commander, Lord Garithos would still be alive.

I could really go on here. Essentially every single thing that Sylvanas is responsible for would have been undone as a result of her death. That includes the good things and the bad things.

WoD’s Draenor was an alternate timeline (thanks to Garrosh + help from a Bronze Dragon, which WAS time travel). The point at which they attacked us would have been roughly 30 years ago if it were our Draenor.

When we went through, we weren’t going into AU Draenor’s past, nor were we going into OUR Draenor’s past, so you could argue it wasn’t time travel, but it was still effectively 30 years prior to what WE know, just, different.
