What was the point of increasing the difficulty floor of mythic dungeons?

I’m not complaining here, I just don’t grasp what the plan was. It’s good that they raised the baseline gear level of 0/+2 to give raid level gear, but what is the point if clearing +2 mythic is harder than clearing a raid on normal difficulty? Low level keys were already harder than doing normal raids anyway. What was the point of making the barrier to entry for m+ higher? To keep casual players in heroics/m0 dungeons and not low level keys? How are they actually supposed to progress through this system? I’m just not following the logic of this decision.

I think the complaint was the different in difficulty was so low between them, that people got too spread out and so some key levels weren’t filling. Like why run a +9 - if you wanted Drake crests you’d just do a +6, and if you could do a +9 just go do a +11 and get wyrm crests.

I just think they did it too much. M0’s could have used a slight bump, but maybe to like a +5 difficulty at most. And just scale more between each level. Cause right now I did +4’s and they didn’t feel much harder then +2’s I did last week. The difficulty between each key is still minor. I think we need more jump between each level, but with it starting lower/easier. Because the Heroic → M0 jump currently is too massive

People wanted more challenging dungeons outside of M+.

That’s called raiding lol. And also we’re getting Delves.

The point was to push out the 40-60% of subs who take up instance space between former 0-10 keys. Server space is expensive. Cut instance servers by this much, that’s a lot of money saved, and money saved is money earned :+1:t5:

Those are different types of content. People who like dungeons specifically, but who dislike things like timers and affixes, weren’t really being catered to.

To be fair, it doesn’t made me sad. I liked the easy levels for alts. I understand though that a lot of players lived in that space. Getting my friend back into WOW has been rough. I am glad I got him to do some keys in season 3 because we jumped into +2s this week and it would have been really rough if he didn’t have some season 3 experience where we got up to like a 10 or 11.

That’s the main issue in my opinion. The Jump from Heroic to M0 is just too much for some people. It’s not a well designed difficulty curve at all.

Is really more that the last 2 season were a joke and this is a more normal season in terms of difficulty.

Which is why I think maybe having it more like a +5 would have been better.

I do understand that M0s were too weak. I remember when this expansion started I hit 70, had an ilvl of like 220 and started M0s. I remember I couldn’t do Heroics as I think you needed like 243 or something, and I looked at normals and said “I aint got time for that” so I skipped Heroics entirely. I understand they wanted Heroics to have a place again so people do them and not just skip them. But average players being 476 going to M0 only works if you’re good at knowing your class/spec etc and put in effort/research etc and not for your average player.

People wanted M+ level gear without timers.

This is M+ level gear without timers.

What people probably wanted was M+ gear in solo-able content that has no fail state.

But if people are having problems with 0’s, normal and heroic got bumped up and are actually useful for gearing up.

This makes sense as long as we have no clue how anything works.

I think heroics having all of the mechanics of M0 but reduced damage would smooth things out. You’d have a pretty reasonable difficulty curve and people could learn all the mechanics before getting into mythics.

Normal = less mechanics. Heroic = full mechanics but reduced damage and mob health. M0 = Full mechanics, more damage and mob health, but no timer/M+ restrictions. Then you get M+.

You hit a wall faster because the system is even more accessible than before. Gearing is definitely easier with the new system and you can fully upgrade heroic gear to 489 before going to a m0 if you only want to do dungeons to gear.

My suggestion is still to skip that level of content and just grind dreamsurge green orbs for whelping and craft yourself a full set of 486 gear in less than an hour.

DF dungeons are also definitely harder at early levels than S3 dungeons which were much easier so I feel it’s normal that people struggle more this season.

Dreamsurge Orbs no longer give Whelpling Crests, unfortunately. That was my plan for my alts, but unfortunately I have to make do with Heroics, world content Caches and LFR until I got enough gear to survive a +2 and started hosting my own keys.

Based on all the complaints I would say players just wanted better gear from lower keys, because there are many complaints from people stating M0 and low keys are too hard now.

It’s a case of we told you so and you don’t know what you are asking until you get it.

We raised these complaints prior to it happening that people will not be able to do the content and it won’t make any difference, and it’s in fact made it worse, because people are just not good enough and don’t want to put in the effort to get gear, we are now finding at low keys, which were not exactly low in S3 and earlier, that there are no tanks and healers.

Part of the problem is that people are still coming to the terms that an M2 is equivalent to an M12 from last season, not knowing just how much easier low keys were in the past. An M2 in the past is about equivalent to what a heroic dungeon is now, but people don’t want to spam heroic, it feels better and sounds better to say you are running M+.

the plan was to give players an option to progress through harder content without having a timer.

now you can do the equivalent of a mythic +10 with no timer as a mythic zero

They fixed it, I did multiple alts today.

This one of my alt I did today, you can see the pioneer gear and crafted neck/ring.

2-10 have been pretty much pointless for a while now, so the change eliminates them.

People kept asking for dungeons that give decent loot without a timer. That’s what they got.
