The Earthen did quiet a bit in the first half of the main campaign for War Within. They gave us access to the coreway and offer insight into the true nature of the titans.
Certainly more central to the story of their expansion than say, the dracthyr.
So they could say, āNobody likes new races anymore, see we gave yāall one and look.ā
Horde didnāt need Dwarves, either.
They already have Goblins.
Any machine stuff was done through them, making Earthen redundant.
Just further watering-down of the factions.
Honestly, Earthen are so ugly that I have literally never seen anyone actually playing one.
Iāve seen Mechagnomes. Iāve seen Kul Tirans.
Iāve never seen an Earthen other than myself for 3 days before I race changed back as soon as the cooldown was up because wow theyāre irredeemably hideous.
So sure Horde have Dwarves now but is even a single soul maining one?
(okay, obviously thereās at least one, but statistically itās freaking dead, yeah?)
Honestly I donāt get what Blizzard is thinking when they make (almost objectively) ugly races like them, Kul Tirans, and Diaper Gnomes. Players donāt touch them. They just donāt, outside of meme characters and unplayed alts when the race is brand new.
Why waste the dev time on them when we could get something people might actually play?
Earthen have been in the game since Vanilla WoW, but apparently no one asked for that, we want Wildhammer because reasons? We want the less OG version of Dwarves because theyāre called Wildhammer. Hey remember Falstad?! Hey remember Olaf and the 3 Dwarves?! Remember Grim Batol, that spooky place in Vanilla we could never go to, oops, I mean that spooky dungeon from Cata no one liked!?
Meanwhile Uldum was a literal GOATed dungeon with Earthen already in it.
Earthen have obsoleted the other Dwarves for me though because of their customization. You can change their skin color to whatever mount you have, itās GOATed.
The Horde will be fine with no Archeology benefit. Relax.
You have a problem with Wildhammer Dwarves now?..how?
They came and went like a fart in the breeze.
So did Worgens tbh. Thereās about to be like 500 different types of Elves, Troll, Human and Dwarf and you have 1 type of Worgen.
And Worgen have a literal faction leader in one of the best cinematics ever made. Thatās wild.
I think someone wanted bearded dwarf women in the game for what ever reason and this is what they came up with.
That seems to be the only major difference between them and the Dwarves we already had.
Well, and they have lackluster racials compared to the other dwarves.
Oh my god thatās right, Rings of Power happened. Lets not forget that 99% of this game is based or inspired by LoTR.
What we know about the Earthen came from the Archive device that Dagran Thaurissan was shown which reads the disks fragments we find in various places. The recordings say that the Earthen were created by the Titans to build a construct that allows them access to the Soul of Azeroth. The constructs include the Coreway and other areas below the main island.
Knowledge is limited because the Sundering seems to have broken the machine and much of the knowledge is lost, at least for the time being. It also seems that when the Earthen get close to the Soul of Azeroth a change takes place which is seen as negative.
There was also information that made the Earthen start to doubt the intentions of the Titans toward them and toward the Soul of Azeroth.
Earthen are a great race.
Might have even been my main had they been made playable earlier (my character canonically having no involvement in the story before 11.0.7 is a bit of a deal breaker for me)
I think they will still be relevant.
Their story hasnt finished yet.
It probably would have been if they didnt turn tww into a trilogy half way through development.
But im sure in tlt they will be back in the spotlight.
This is the real answer.
I canāt really recall what the point of their story was. To gain free will and uncover that we didnāt have the story with the Titans straight after all? Something like that.
They were okay but in hindsight I agree, they are largely negligible.

Nah this is something that actually bugs me on the racial thing.
Like Ironforge Dwarves activate Stoneform to give them a brief period where they exist as they were before the curse of Flesh, which of course makes them immune to bleeds and stuff and purges those debuffs.
But the actual Earthen, in Stoneform 24/7, donāt get a bleed heal racial?
Iād say Earthen have the worst racials in the game tbh. I really like the Earthen tbh, but wish they werenāt so bad.
Like there are definitely some why the hell are they here racials in the game, but pretty much every race has at least one good one. Maybe not Night Elf Shadowmeld busted, but Void Elf Spatial Rift is really useful, Orc Stun Resistance and on-use DPS racial is great, Will of the Forsaken is good even though unlimited breath underwater isnāt. Goblin Rocket Boost is awesome even if the āsummon your bankā racial is kind of useless with guild perks. Everyone has at least an OK racial except Earthen IMO. And I wish theyād go back to the drawing board and give them something cooler.
