What Was The Hardest Item For You to Aquire In Wow

Players have gone through some Difficult Struggles and sacrifices to acquire “That Special Item.” That they wanted. A special sword, shield, pet, gem, transmog item, piece of armor, Crafting item, mount. Any special thing that they wanted to get more than anything else and that they were willing to do anything to get. Travel areas that were way above their level risking instant death. Travel to hard to reach locations. Go through mind numbing long quest chains. Fight bosses hundreds of times for that drop.

What was it like for you to struggle so long and finally succeed in getting that special thing in Wow you obsessed about for so long. This can be anything you wanted. At any Level

Hmm, not sure about epic, but…

The longest to acquire was actually probably my night elf cat mount back in Vanilla. Having started as a human and having no clue that rep gain from quests fell off a cliff after the quests turned gray (as they did back then), grinding the Runecloth and gold required to get to Exalted with Darnassus and buy an epic mount took a long time, and was extended by me being a squishy mage with bad gear grinding an area with hard hitting L55-L60 elites on a PvP server. It took several weeks of grinding for an hour or two in the evenings.

The hardest to acquire was probably my mage tower appearances. A couple of those fell into my lap, but others were quite hard and some I didn’t manage to get despite trying (like the prot warrior flail).

Not the most interesting but there you have it.

For me it was Mimiron’s head…I ran it for years on several alts. On the up side, I made good bank on the mats on pets sold by running it, but I was still glad to be done with it when the mount finally dropped.

Definitely this:

Subsequent gladiator mounts were very hard as well, but that first one felt the hardest. I still remember the feeling when I opened the mailbox and had the mount sitting there. Very rarely felt that way in WoW again.

Wow, this brings back memories. I actually did this on my human mage in Vanilla too! I picked the white epic tiger when I finally finished it.

At the time I had just started playing wow the first year the game had released. I was playing a night elf warrior had made it to level 6. I traveled to Dolanaar to continue leveling and entered the Inn there. I noticed one of the npcs that was standing around. The thing that caught my eye was the sword he was holding. I was immediately enchanted by its looks. I tried checking the weapons seller in the Inn. But no luck.

I continued exploring and leveling up. I checked the stores in and the Auction House in darnassus. later on I checked online sites. Nothing, no information about the sword. I asked other players I met. But nothing. This went on for years. I leveled to max. Could’nt find that sword that I hungered for. I searched for years on end, nothing. Eventually I forgot about it.

17 years later while fighting and killing random group of mobs I auto-looted. later that day I checked my bags. And was surprised! There in my bag was the same sword I had pined for, for so many years. I was happy. Well until I notice it was a level 30 sword.

I became sad. After so many years…ah well. It was what it was. Then I remembered something that perked me up. Transmog! I spawned my Mammoth Mount and checked to see if I could use the appearance on my high level sword. Bang! Yes! I was so joyful I started dancing around. Lol.

Back during Wrath of the Lich King, I ran the Frozen Halls at every opportunity for the chance to get the Battered Hilt which would begin the quest chain to achieve the fabled sword; Quel’delar. I was young and I really wanted this sword, so I spent a copious amount of time in that dungeon. I only saw it drop once, but sadly I lost the roll for it.

Years later, the battered hilt would drop for me again on a simple transmog run. I took it. Did the quest, and got the sword. But it was no longer relevant. It was now just a cool sword, which I could potentially use a transmog. It was honestly pretty bittersweet.

But hey, with Classic Wrath all but confirmed to be around the corner, who knows.

My frostwrym mount from ICC. Mostly because at the time our gm and raid leader decided to cannibalize the two 10 man raid groups to super stack their own and focus on heroic LK, it resulted in the B team going hardcore and knocking out most of the achievements in one run.

Strange Goop.

Not counting mage tower stuff,

What a pain in the butt.

I don’t know, I don’t usually think about things in terms of “hard” I usually think about things in terms of annoying, tedious, time consuming  So the answer would be whatever I found to be the most annoying, tedious or time consuming thing. At the moment I don’t know what would get that title :man_shrugging:

This one’s easy. I’m still working on it. Legion Artifact Weapon, Last Appearance slot, second row from the top. Unlocked by completing the achievement “This side up.” To complete said achievement, one must collect eight rare archeology artifacts throughout the Broken Isles. I currently have four. With the Archeology trainer in Legion Dalaran issuing a quest every two weeks, I should have that appearance slot unlocked in… eight more weeks. :eye: :eye:  :gun:

my 5 whole bottles of [Bottle of Peaked Dalaran Red] I waited a YEAR for them things to age…

Probably the 100 Exalted reps. I hit 100 before Shadowlands and man ohh man were some of them a grind. All the Steamwheedle Cartel reps shudder. I watched like 2.5 seasons of a TV show mindlessly grinding out those reps.

I finished these later, but I was so happy to finally hit Exalted with the Black Prince rep from Pandaria, two+ years in the making since I didn’t play then. Some 20 odd weeks with the Hydraxian Waterlords. And neither of those two even have a vendor to buy anything from!

I am probably most proud of my Prestigious Bronze Courser mount I earned during the last Comp Stomp. I don’t pvp at all but have always loved that model. I had no idea Comp Stomp was against AI until then so I burned through all 15 honor levels in the last two they had. That was a loooot of tedium but the mount was worth it.

That is truly impressive!! And humbling for me since I just gushed about how happy I was to get the tank 15 one hah.

Dead heat between my first epic mount and the spelltome mount.
