To this day I’ve never played Ocarina. I keep meaning to, but it just never happens.

Obviously your collage can’t include everything but it really feels like you’ve missed some big games this time. Half-Life, Tekken 3 (home release - arcade was '97), Unreal, Thief, Rainbow Six, and StarCraft all launched in 1998. Technically Gran Turismo as well, though that was only outside of Japan. Other notable mentions also to Medieval, SiN, Starsiege: Tribes, Tenchu, Trespasser, and a little-known game called Baldur’s Gate. And, of course, a bunch of arcade sequels (Metal Slug II, Shock Troopers 2, Soul Calibur, Street Fighter Alpha 3 and EX2, KoF 98, and so on).

Oddly enough, it would seem I didn’t play much from that year. Big names and plenty of titles that shaped the industry (or at least their respective companies), but not really the kind of bangers there was in 1993.

But if I had to pick one? Total play time would go to StarCraft (inc Brood War, which also released in '98), though I did finish Metal Gear: Solid more times (had to get the headband and stealth). And oddly enough I feel like replaying Shogo the most.

I’ll go with Ocarina of Time. I never finished it because I wanted to 100% it and I needed to find one more Gold Skulltula and never did. I’m off until January so now sounds like a good time. I finished Parasite Eve but it doesn’t hold up. Metal Gear Solid, Resident Evil 2, Banjo Kazooie, and Pokémon Yellow are all still great. I bought Xenogears in 1998 and still have yet to play it :frowning:

StarCraft 1. It captured the spirit of the 90’s.

Baldurs Gate 1 was the only game I became peturbed by all the delays before finally releasing.

Great game, but global release was January 1997. Unless you’re specifically referring to the PC port.

Spyro the Dragon.

In terms of lasting cultural impact, I’d go for Starcraft 1.

Sonic Adventure was so cool as a kid back then, and Banjo-Kazooie is just a master class in design.

Gex 2 doesn’t belong here. Gex 3 is a GOAT, not Gex 2.

There’s so many, it’s hard to pick one that’s a GOAT that I personally played and loved:

Half-Life
Starcraft
Sonic Adventure
Marvel vs Capcom: Clash of Super Heroes
Street Fighter Alpha 3
Panzer Dragoon Saga

Sonic Adventure did release in the last week of December 1998 in Japan, but it didn’t get its global release until mid/late 1999.

Final Fantasy Tactics, hands down.

i had moved on to pc by then, likely playing starcraft, i know i got it at release and that’s apparently when it released.

i got excited when i saw the golden Zelda image but last one i put any real time into was a link to the past on snes. still my fav zelda to this day.

I’m sort of confused as to why Gex, A Bug’s Life, and Nancy Drew are in the images but Final Fantasy Tactics, Starcraft, Half-Life, Thief: The Dark Project, and Baldur’s Gate are omitted.

Dragon Warrior Monster for the Game Boy. I still talk about this game and loved it and the series so much.

They just released a new one for Switch, Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince. I’m considering picking it up.

I think I will check it out. Now if only I could get a monster rancher game as well!
