Back in legion, I decided to join a heroic raiding guild for Emerald Nightmare. I had a grand time during Mythic+ and getting to know the team.
However a curse came in that my PC sometimes hates me. I forgot the name of the boss but it was a bird, and during the fight I got a debuff that drops crap when it expires, and right then my computer froze.
I was unable to move yet could still hear everyone talking, and heard that my freeze had caused the raid to wipe, and heard them yelling my character name before my computer blue screened me.
I ended up not even opening wow for 6 months after that because of anxiety and embarrassment.
What’s y’all’s stories?
I never took a break.
Except for the week I was in Arizona and my sub lapsed, making me ineligible for the statue they sent out.

I don’t have any dumb reason, but my longest breaks would be during the pandemic I had to work 15-18 hours shifts for like 5 months before I got a break .So had to cut off on a lot of free time. Prior to that was back in wotlk , when I was old enough to get my new account for Cata, I don’t remember how long it was but when I got back in, Firelands was going on .

I think shadowlands was the only time I took a break because the game wasn’t fun, the other breaks ended up being irl obligations, or in game messups.
I had to take a wizz once so I took a 4 month break

Last patch of BfA I hit the limit of my patience with systems piled upon systems so I didn’t login for five months. Plus Covid had ravaged my business and I had to do some financial juggling, and find new income sources to keep some of my staff, which had me stressed and preoccupied. I wasn’t in the mood to jump through Ion’s endless hoops.
I should have found something else in the game to do. The escape from reality would have served me good.

Oh , I have a story , MY friends decided They needed a tank , so they had me convert my hybrid balance druid ( back in outlands , before there were boomkins) to a guardian druid, then they said they could make me massive , so we did some dungeons and collected some trinkets and We grinded rep with the Cenarion elves in Zangarmarsh until I could wear clefthoof leather and I packed on so much stamina that absolutely nothing could damage me without tremendous effort.
One day, for lack of something to do, we Joined the AV battleground and I am not sure which dev it was, but he was obviously leading the alliance team, because they became so frustrated banging on my unbudgeing armor, the next day , they nerfed protection druids so hard , we lost nearly half our armor and took a lot more damage.
Keeping in mind this was my guild mates build and not mine, i was just the lab experiment.
I was so afraid I would get the class permanently deleted , I did not play him for nearly 5 years. ( but I did level a blood elf hunter instead, so not a total break from wow).
I cant even tell you what I did cause it was more or less a group effort with mechanics I did not fully understand , but I have endeavored to try to stay normalized with my characters , so I dont repeat the result.

Dumbest reason I took a break from WoW… I was banned.
I’m pretty sure if you just explained the situation they would have understood.
But I’ve only ever left for being bored with the xpac, except for a brief period in classic when my grandma passed away.
I’ve taken breaks because of burn out and maybe a bit of boredom mixed in
None of my breaks were dumb to me, but I suspect others might disagree if I tell the stories … so I don’t feel inclined to tell the stories.

Forgot to update my card when it expired. I went to unsub during WoD and I already was
It’s about to be because blizzard will not fix the Landro Longshot bug. Players are making forum posts about not being able to claim their TCG rewards and not only are we all being ignored, but they’re bliss is auto closing tickets, and then extending the wait time on the next ticket we open up. Absolutely no communication on the forums about when this issue will be resolved.
In about a year you can post this thread and get dozens of responses of ‘I took a break because the new UI didn’t have the jpg of a gryphon I was accustomed to’.
I took a break after nighthold until BFA season 3 because the guild I was in during nighthold was absolutely toxic and made playing the game miserable, and that ended with me missing out on most of a very good expansion.

I quit when the BFA first raid (the G’hunn one) finished to be relevant. I was part burned out, part in a hard work schedule, part bored with all that borrowed power crap and part ofended with the massive lay off of 800ish people by Activision Blizzard.
Came back recently for Dragonflight because dragons and no borrowed power. I spent the last couple months changing server and farming all the boxes for the Ravenhold reputation so I can do that achievement with my new main Evoker.
I took 2 week breaks every year to go on vacation. Now I’m on a permanent break. Dumb reason being I want to unshackle myself from the game and spend more time with my wife and kids.
Covid was the dumbest reason (in more ways than one) that I took a break from WoW, but I got two promotions and a huge raise so I suppose there’s that.
They made WoD, i played WoD the dumb decision was making WoD
Got married, what a huge waste of WoW time
