What was the best Race to play a DPS Warrior in Classic?

Fury is not locked to duel wielding?

Not at all. 2h fury does huge dps and is the best dps spec until you can get the proper gear to duel wield. There will be barely enough hit gear to justify going duel wield in early Classic but once you hit BWL, duel wield becomes a lot more viable

fury is for pve (mostly), 31 points in Arms is almost exclusively a pvp spec. Good guilds won’t allow arms warriors into raids, they are only good at burst damage or sometimes cleaving and mortal strike is a debuff that raid leaders dont want. Fury warriors are the king of classic at sustained DPS.

That is actually not true, especially considering there will be 16 debuff slots in Classic from the get go. Arms warriors were in raids in Vanilla and are still viable on p servers. You can still pull extremely solid dps as an arms warrior and sometimes even more dps than fury warriors on specific fights (multi target fights due to sweeping strikes). Single target I could pull 600 dps in MC with pre bis / BRE in MC. Arms isn’t the most optimal dps spec but its dps is only slightly less than fury warriors on single target fights.

Human has the strongest PvE racial, as it’s entirely passive and reduces the glancing blows from your white attacks, which is a very large portion of your damage. And swords tend to be some of the best weapons in the game.

To everyone downplaying Undead Warriors in PvP because of Berserker Rage…that was a Berserker Stance only ability back then. If you get feared in Battle Stance you’re outta luck, unless you’re Fury and specc’d properly (Death Wish)

You’re completely forgetting about its charm removal as well. Great against Warlocks that actually know how to use charm properly in PvP.

Fury is a PVE DPS build. Yes, you can use it as either 2H which is common on Horde because of Windfury or Dual Wield on the Alliance side. Horde will also prefer Dual Wield later in the game when the best 1h axes start dropping. 2H is the better option while leveling.

Arms is a PVP burst build. I also think (opinion alert) that it is the better of the two for a leveling build, particularly on PVP servers.

Until you can snag MS at 40, 2H Fury is the better leveling build. More talents go straight into increasing your damage output right away, while others just sit there and waste 3 levels worth of points (looking at you improved rend).

I’d even say you can wait til 45 to swap to Mortal Strike, depending on your gear. If you didn’t have an axe or polearm to replace the lost 5 crit from Cruelty, you’ll be just fine waiting til you can either A) put 5 points back into Cruelty after taking Mortal Strike, or B) Snag An Axe / polearm.

The extra rage gen, moreso than the damage, from those white attack crits is basically irreplaceable while leveling.

Horde Orc
Alliance Human

I disagree. Having Impale, Improved Overpower, and Sweeping Strikes is great while leveling prior to 40. Tactical Mastery lets you play the class correctly, and Anger Management helps you save up rage for the next pull.

To each their own.

For context in actual Vanilla, Tauren was considered the best tank racial at the time because the boss mechanics were unknown, and the ability to just survive a lot of damage was crucial.

Boss mods were bad and min/maxing was a lot harder back then because of the scarcity of information, so the ability to just have a larger margin for error in the form of a bigger health pool was absolutely massive in the world first race.

Now that we know what everything does and when it’s going to do it, extra threat output is generally better, with the exception of certain fights.

2h is viable even on alliance, as fury. No arms warrior will ever come close to a fury, them parsing slightly better in ideal sweeping strike scenarios does not make up for their lack of sustainable dps.

If you are in a meme raid maybe they wont care. Any guild who cares about clear times or warriors that want to compete on dps meters wont touch mortal strike in raids.

I never had any issue with TPS, in fact I was known for it. On paper I might have higher output as Troll or Orc but I wouldn’t make my decision based on that. That said I agree with you. Also there is value in being the highest possible EH tank in the game.

Can I introduce you to my friend Blood Fury over there?

Horde Arms warriors definitely do close dps to a 2h fury warrior. As i posted above I was doing 600 single target dps in pre bis with BRE in MC

You may be staring at that toon for years. I’ve spent an entire year of my awake life staring at this one (269 days played). By far the most important thing when picking a race is picking one that you think looks cool. As others have said, the racial differences are not very noticeable in the grand scheme of things. Pretty much all of them have something useful for any class. But your toon looking like crap is something you will notice every single time you log in. And in Classic, you probably won’t be able to change it, ever.

Agreed. Also just hitting really, really hard feels good, especially with Improved Overpower. Its an easy way to notice your increased damage. WIth Duel Wielding its sometimes hard to tell without an addon in place after an upgrade.

Beyond that I think Arms is just better for Tanking because of Tactical Mastery and Anger Management and also for chain pulling quest mobs. Being able to easily lay down a Thunderclap every pull does make a noticeable difference. I would always have party members comment on how I was quite a bit more durable than other Warriors they had grouped with. It was primarily because I had tons of rage to dumb so could use ALL of my defensives vs just attempting to hold aggro. Also improved Thunderclap and buying the upgrades to Thunderclap are pretty underrated. Helps initial aggro more than people realize and makes Thunderclap last to the end of most any pull.

First, Pre-Bis means “Pre-Best In Slot” before raiding. Your claim that you did 600 dps with BRE and pre-bis doesn’t make sense as how are you getting the BIS weapon before Kel’Thuzad and you don’t have any other gear from the raid?

Also I can’t find a single parse on legacy raid that shows a pre-bis warrior breaking 400dps on Golemag which is a cleave heavy fight that would benefit an Arms warrior but you claimed 600dps single target. (I used date function searching to only look at parses of the first couple weeks of MC clears, when people would have pre-bis and maybe a couple drops).

Also you claimed to make those numbers as Horde which also doesn’t make sense since it is Alliance-Humans that get the sword skill and BRE is definitely a 2h Sword.

I know that an Arms warrior can put out decent numbers but yours just aren’t adding up.

5 letter word… GNOME!
