What was RPPVP like vs PVP?

Yeah, so I never rolled any toons on them. To anyone who’s owned main characters on them, what are they like? Is it significantly different than just PVP servers?

I’d imagine that they might be different if there were entire dedicated servers for them. I think I might roll a main on RPPVP.

EDIT:
Oh yeah, I have vague memories that you need to pick an actual name on them rather than something like “Bastid” or “JooPeter”

RP-PVP is great. A fun community similar to streamers minus the streamers and their fanbois. More events on RP-PVP server than regular PVP server. Lots of world PVP emphasis on RP-PVP servers.

It’s like a PvP server, but with roleplayers.

If you don’t like roleplayers, go to a PvP server.

If you like roleplayers or are one, go to the RPPvP server.

Yeah, The events stuff sounds really fun.

Its much the same. You have to remember that RP-PvP servers during Vanilla got nearly a 1 year late start over other servers, so BGs were already in the game, BWL was out, etc.

That said, World PvP was very much alive. Ganking was very real. Server population was probably lower than standard PvP servers at the time, but healthy enough to support the game.

You didn’t walk around and see people named “dwarfmcstab” and “lawnchair”, which is important to some people.

Despite what some will tell you on this forum, strictly adhering to the OOC / IC rules wasn’t enforced as much as they’d make you believe. The name rule very much was, however.

If you joined an RP oriented guild that was heavy on PvP, you had PvP events planned out against opposing faction guilds, and / or your guild would respond to heavy opposing faction griefing in their “base zone” (like say, lots of Horde ganking Alliance in Arathi, and you guild was based out of Arathi, then the guild would rally up and go defend).

Was fun.

It sounds like my cup of tea.

Wanted to add that my guild was apart of an Alliance of guilds called the Honor Guard. So sometimes you’d get a call to arms from a guild in the alliance to go help defend their area if the fighting was getting out of hand. I have to say that was really awesome to see. A bunch of players from different guilds answering the call to arms in a contested zone.

Addition #2: Going to Ironforge and seeing the staple “all dwarf” guild doing their weekly march around the city.

pvp server “omg get rolled rofl”
rp-pvp server “for the alliance! drinks on me!”
that about sums it up

I would have rolled rp-pvp but they didn’t make any east coast servers one.

I spent most of my WoW time on rppvp servers. I dont really rp but I started on a rppvp server with friends and found the community to be nice and less childish the regular pvp servers.
I would like to play on Grob but I might end up on a regular pvp server because of where friends want to play.
