For example, mine is a Flameweaver Sorcerer. He can use fire magic to burn his enemies to a crisp, or heal his allies soothing warmth, granted he also has access to arcane and frost spells but those aren’t as strong potency wise as his fire magic.
While I don’t consider them that unique myself several of my Pandaren characters have peculiar class features. My Pandaren Rogues are shamanic assassins, able to invoke the elements in a relatively limited capacity. Some of my Monks, especially one in particular, have similar abilities; primarily owing to shared origins.
Those related characters, Zhihao Winterclaw, Song Hsuhu and Liangyu, have their shamanic abilities primarily explained as being possible by a personal elemental spirit that acts as their second, bound to a special chi-infused amulet to help facilitate travel. Beyond their minor to moderate powers of frost they’re no different from their base class, hence why I don’t consider them that unique.
I have a Night Elf who I suppose could be considered to be of a unique class. She combines traits of the tabletop classes Gunman (whose namesake I use in her profile) and Deadshot, along with a set of magic guns lacking physical triggers. She is capable of few arcane spells, primarily for utility; but I consider those to be independent additions rather than aspects of the class itself.
That’s really interesting, I’d love to hear more
So, the former has a fair bit of lore to it. The named characters are members of the Winterclaw Clan, whose self-appointed charge was the preferably covert protection of the Pandaria, both its people and especially the land itself. Their shamanism is derived from a pact made between a group of escaped slaves, who were the clan’s founders, and the local elements of the Kun-Lai, specifically those in the mountains.
It is an elective tradition that the clan’s combatants obtain the allegiance of one of the local spirits by a variety of potential means with the aid of a clan Shaman. Once won, this spirit acts the individual’s personal companion, charged with mutual protection until death or betrayal. The spirits themselves are most typically of water, specifically frost, but the other elements are equally valid of pursuit.
The capabilities these individuals have through their elementals varies but their powers are generally used for enhancement or utility, enchanting weaponry, creating distractions, temporary protection and situational tools such as decoys and grapples. To give some examples, Liangyu, a Monk, has once been written as incorporating frost into chi bursts and Zhihao, one of the Rogues, uses ice-based decoys in a short I wrote. Those in the clan bearing a second also share a comparable connection to the elements as a consequence of the process. As a result, they may make minor use of other elements besides those related to their second; smaller utilities, such as using the wind to enhance their hearing or simply making campfires easier. Rarely do their capabilities extend to many big spells like a Shaman, due in part to the exact nature of their connection compared to one, as well as the exact needs they have to fulfill.
To elaborate on the aforementioned amulet, aside from housing the second I also use it to explain the invisibility of stealth, acting as a sort of optical camouflage by magically bending light to affect perception.
There isn’t too much to say about the Nelf class-wise. I styled her as being primarily a sniper, but capable of more close quarters combat to a somewhat limited degree. The guns themselves were the highest concern, adapting a concept from my own fantasy setting; that of a gun that shot bolts of magic and require small surges of magic from the user to operate. In this case it’s a collaborative project between two magically inclined gunsmiths, one Gnome and one Dark Iron Dwarf, the Night Elf, Yshalar Alan’thera. She was given custom rune marks on her hands to operate a pistol and rifle of their design. Besides firing these weapons, the marks can also be used as catalyst for adjusting the power of shots and mutating shots with special effects. The guns themselves require special cartridges, akin to mana gems, to fuel the shots; the mana provided by the user is foremost just the trigger.
Theoretically mages could operate these guns easily, though given that most would (and arguably should) be capable of replicating the effect on their own I can’t imagine from a meta perspective why one would want to.
As mentioned before, Yshalar also knows a few actual spells, used for utility. From what I remember, these include Blink, Conjure Refreshment, and Invisibility. She can also use the trigger marks to expel gouts of magic a distance, like a flamethrower, though doing so would expend much of her mana very quickly.
I wouldn’t call any of my characters as having unique classes, but having some non lore abilities that explain SOME of her game abilities, such as the ability to call animal companions from the Emerald Dream. Or the possession of a hearthstone. and a quiver of endless arrows.
I don’t speak of my character as having a “class” Classes are a gaming convention, not part of her roleplay. She does have a certain set of abilities and learned skills that might associate her as part of a general job group, but that’s about it.
Bone here is more along the lines of a possessed. All the ability to heal and rage that fury warriors have is seen through the lens of his possession.
The demon wont let him kill himself and drives him ever forward to the next battle field. When i finally decied to retire him his story will end with his death at the alter of storms in the blasted lands.
Pretty cool
Jonathan Harmarth is difficult to define. He’s accrued a very diverse skillset, but he definitely has his specialties.
He has all the expected stealth and assassination training of an SI:7 Agent, so he can do the standard rogue stuff. However, upon becoming a Worgen, his fighting style has changed dramatically. While he’s still very agile, he’s become more of a berserker in frontline combat, which has actually become his greatest area of expertise. The bigger the crowd, the more at home he is.
I’m not sure what exactly you would call that; the agile fighting style of a rogue powered by a frenzied berserker rage. Add to that the fact that he’s generally got a lot of tricks up his sleeve. He’s skilled at a variety of minor “utility” magic, but his greatest asset in that regard is short-range arcane teleports, which he can perform in quick succession, which is how I flavor the Killing Spree ability.
So he’s got a lot of Rogue to him still, but he’s got some other leanings that make me feel like just calling him a “Rogue” doesn’t really do him justice.
My Destuction Warlock, on the other hand, RP-wise is honestly more of a hybrid between that and a Fire Mage; the only demon he ever acquire was the imp, and puts effort into maintaining his skill with both Arcane, and fel-based fire magic.
Other than being a “Hunter” for game mechanics Ryu takes on the moniker of a couple different “classes”. The first being an Elven Ranger; odd I know with him being born a Wildhammer Dwarf. Delving deeper into that he is a Sentinel since the end of the 3rd war and the Battle of Mount Hyjal. He’s also known as a Scout, Dead-eye, Emerald Dragonsworn, and one of my favorites a “Primalist”.
Interesting
Conspiracy Theorist.
That sounds kick a$$
I am a champion of Hakkar, he blessed me with immortality so long as I show him respect and give him what is owed to him.
The longer I fight my enemies the more blood I draw forth to give to my master.
You pay for the life that is owed to you.
This guy is based on my love of slasher flicks and warhammer, Its an interesting bit to play. Being immortal makes him take unnecessary risk and let himself get hurt for a minor upper hand.
The only thing that sucks now is troll rp fell out of favor
Pretty cool
I RP my DH as a spellsword that primarily uses arcane.
When on the DH, I use goggles, wraps or hoods to hide the eyes and RP him as using a combo of chi and arcane to see.
Pretty cool :3
Live Glaivereaver, Asaerion is being RP’ed as a Spellsword. He was originally a pretty standard Quel’dorei Mage before Arthas marched the Scourge through Quel’thalas and wrecked everything.
He immeditately left Quel’thalas when the schism between Quel’dorei and Sin’dorei occured and since that point he began doing a lot of subterfuge and sabotage against many Scourge and Legion targets, with the occasional Sin’dorei meeting a swift end when crossing paths.
As a result, it was a rather natural process for him to go from a primary reliance on magic, to a secondary supportive device for him. So he’ll use quick incantations to stagger opponents and will weave that into his newfound martial skills to finish the job.
My character is a mix of a rogue and a warrior. Able to use spells here and there fir minor conveniences. He evolved to dual wielding 2handersbevayde if his time as a rogue. He hides smaller 1h blades in his boots abs belt
Remember back in Legion when Rogue had the Bribe ability, where they could spend a handful of gold and an NPC would not only turn non-hostile, they’d follow you around and be your bodyguard?
Tam would be if they took that single ability and made it class. Need to fight? Pay someone to fly you there. Need to heal? Pay someone to heal you. Need to tank? Pay someone to tank for you.
City of Heroes/Villains has the Mastermind class, where you can build a character that has up to a dozen guys running around and fighting for them while your actual character can have ZERO personal offensive/defensive capabilities. Since your investment is entirely in your henchmen, your “rotation” becomes about positioning, prioritizing targets/splitting fire, summoning, and keeping them alive as circumstances dictate. Still far and away the most fun pet class I’ve ever played in any MMO.
Not a big fan of Trolls. Your kind have been a bane in the Wildhammers since we settled in Aerie and the Highlands. If I had my way your kind and all you believe in would be wiped from the face of Azeroth for all eternity. Though I suppose if Trolls never existed then our allies the High Elves wouldn’t either.
You do have an interesting concept there. I do like it.
Bowen here doesn’t really have a custom class. He does hang out with a Black Dragon though who disguises himself as a fellow Dwarf. Draconyxion is one of the Blacks from Outland who didn’t mutate into the Neatherwing.
