What to do with all the whelpling crest?

If you’re rocking 411+ itlev gear do I just delete the whelpling crest?

Yes, but I think they should allow converting up at a steep price. Like 1 whelp crest for 2 drake fragments. Or maybe sell account wide boxes of Flightstones/Explorer gear for whelp crests to feed alts. Deleting always feels bad.

You can sell em. For gold.

Edit: I had to massive edit this post because I misunderstood something. give thanks to Kairaani.

They don’t want people trading low crests for High Ones, Blizzard was very clear in their blue posts that they want people doing appropriate difficulty content for appropriate difficulty crests.

The alt thing only gives you a flightstone discount. You will still need to pay for crests.

I swear I didn’t have to just yesterday, upgrading gear that should’ve required whelpling crests with just flightstones.

My hunter, who I hadn’t touched since the beginning of the expansion was able to upgrade all of her gear to 8/8 upgrades and item level 398 without spending any crests.

At least I thought so

You can upgrade without a Crest cost if the character you’re playing already has an item of higher item level in that slot (2 items for certain 1H weapons, rings, and trinkets).

But your alts will still need to pay crests for upgrades that normally require them. You can’t gear one character to 441 and then gear your alt to 441 without needing a single crest. Which makes sense, you still need to be doing difficult content to get good gear.

Its for alts but you need the enchanted form

You do, basically what i had planned was to do the 5 heroic dungeon weekly on alts, to get different slot item levels, and get discounts all around

I understand. Thanks for clearing that up.
Perhaps then you should be able to trade crests to your alts at a diminished ratio.

this post did not age well

This post is responding to your post about the other post not aging well 5 months ago.

that’s how aging works, you’re very astute.

Frankly I think the whelping crests ought to be Binds to Account , so If I earned them on one character , I can send them to a lower one, but I admit , I have gotten most of my guys to 70 already and they at least have veteran armor 402 and it isn’t a great need for me.

And finally, for your information, the green orbs floating over Valdrakken this week drop coalescence and whelping stones when you fly through them, So don’t have any idea what this baloney about hard content is about?

Save them for the obvious incoming wave of quality of life changes that should’ve been in the game months ago lol

Its only a matter of time.

If you check the 10.2 PTR, you will find all 10.1 crests and fragments you have saved up are turned into grey vendor junk (worth a modest amount of gold)

I thought they were adding some sort of upconverting merchant or something once you’d maxed out all you could buy with a given level of crests?

It’s all becoming gray vendor trash?

I understand that they don’t want this, but seriously, come on lol. I don’t think it’s a big deal to allow people to trade up if the price is really high, like say, oh, 50 whelping crests for one drake crest. Drake crests still drop from open world content so it’s not like people are shortcutting content here.

There is a vendor in the new zone who will (once you reach required gear thresholds) allow you upgrade the new (“dreaming”) crests.

eg: once you have equipped ilvl 450 gear in all slots, you can trade 90 whelpling’s dreaming crests for 15 drake’s dreaming crests (instead of collecting 15 fragments to turn into crests to do an upgrade, what are now called fragments are just called crests in the new season and you need 15x as many … so same costs with just a little less bag clutter)

However, the current fragments/crests we have aren’t carrying forward. Like valor systems of old, it looks like we have a flat reboot of our upgrade currency with the new season.

Whelping Crests were added for only one reason by Blizz, homage to an old meme…
