OP, I understand that on private servers there are quasi-official World channels, but that was never the case in official WoW. You’re talking about a player-created, private channel. Seizing control of it for noxious politics is repulsive behavior, sure, but it’s not griefing and it’s not actionable. However many years you’ve been used to treating the World channel as if it was official, it has, and has always had, no more Blizzard backing than if it was the “YayTrump” channel.

Privately created channels aren’t case-sensitive like that. Trying to “/join World” would result in rejoining the world channel…or getting whatever message you get when you try to join a channel that you’re banned from.

Getting banned from this channel is a massive handicap when other people are allowed to use the channel. Is there anything that can be done about this kind of hijacking? Is this against the WoW TOS?

I hate to get into the politics of this, but hey: you started it.

The projection is unreal. Every pro-Trump forum on reddit is hilariously pro-censorship. The primary pro-Trump subreddit explicitly bans disagreeing with Trump. And, as the OP shows, this attitude is prevalent in all the online places they go.

It’s a shame this thread is filled with apparently the same sort of toxic people that OP encountered in /world. Unfortunately there is not much that can be done here other than hope they let control of the channel slip, but we can all take a moment to acknowledge the immaturity and pettiness of this guild and how insecure you must be about your political leanings if you think the best course of action is taking over a global channel in a video game to promote it.

Whether or not YOU used this channel in the past, is not really relevant to my ability to participate in a server community that people of another viewpoint are allowed to use. Calling me a troll/snowflake for this really undermines any intelligent discourse here.

So a group of people who’re spouting pro-Trump commentary is banning people from a channel who make anti-Trump commentary in said channel – does this not mean that you, upon seeing something stated positively about Trump, willfully chose to respond with something negative?

It’s not a private channel. It’s a public channel. This guild did not create it, nor do they own it.

Actually, it sounds like they do own it. Player created channels literally have an “owner”, who gets to decide the mods, ban/unban, etc. From what you’re describing, the owner is a member of this guild, so they do own it, much as you may dislike that situation.

So as we know, /world is now a common way to trade items, chat when you’re bored, find groups, sell things, or just have fun with others in the community.

On my server Grobbulus, a pro-Trump guild (The Enclave) had one of their members randomly chosen to be the owner of this public channel. Since then, before logging out, they hand off ownership to a guildmate with a similar agenda: To ban any other guilds from advertising (except their own), ban anyone who disagrees with their political views, and to control anything else they personally do not like.

Getting banned from this channel is a massive handicap when other people are allowed to use the channel. Is there anything that can be done about this kind of hijacking? Is this against the WoW TOS?

On Bloodsail /world is never used. The server uses /LookingForGroup for general chat. I might be wrong, but it’s made by blizzard… So no one is getting banned by other players. Lots of off topic stuff goes on, but it bypasses the issue your having.

Because policing other peoples thoughts and opinions you disagree with is madness. I don’t care how toxic they are, let the community know such toxic opinions exist, and have everyone make their own conclusions.
