I just finished leveling a warrior and I’m lost as to what type of content I should or can be doing. I’ve really enjoyed running around the dragon isles and doing the dungeons but that’s about all I’m familiar with. I’m interested in pve and pvp content as well as my collections for transmog/mounts, but I don’t even know where to start.
There’s almost too much to do at 70
Continue the Campaign and “World Quests”
There are a number of level-70 only pve zones in DF: Forbidden Reach, Loam, and Emerald Dream. Forbidden Reach and Loam are season 1 and 2 content, so it’s not super relevant to acquiring gear, but there is content and quests there.
You can check your progress on this by opening your quest log and focusing on the quests at the top (campaign quests).
World Quests are special dots on your map that get unlocked when you reach 70 for the first time. World Quests have a timer associated with them, and reset parodically (old ones disappear and new ones replace them).
The Emerald Dream area will have gear of relevant item level as rewards. Where the other two zones have outdated gear.
Gearing (overview)
Now that you’re 70 you might notice your gear has “Track” information. So you’ll see that your gear might be 447 item level and it will say 3/8 Veteran. This means the gear is upgradable with Flightstones and Crests. So that example item is “on the veteran track” and can be upgraded 5 more times to become 8/8 Veteran. All 8/8 Veteran gear is item level 463. Gear exists on 4 different tracks: Veteran, Champion, Hero, and Myth.
To upgrade an item you need to acquire Flightstones (acquired from most activity) and a specific type of “Crest”. For example Whelp Crests are used to bring an item to 450. There are upgrade vendors around the world and you can check the required materials for those upgrades.
Mythic+ Dungeons
If 5-player dungeons interest you, you’ll want to look into Mythic+ (or M+) dungeons. Again, very broadly, this is a system where all dungeons scale up “infinitely” in difficulty, under a time constraint. You have a keystone that gives you a level, like +4 Waycrest Manor. If you complete the dungeon in less than 36 minutes, your key will gain a level and become a +5 of another dungeon. If you complete the dungeon in over 36 minutes it will become a +3 of another dungeon.
Many players find M+ Dungeons a fun and interesting use of time in game. To engage in this, you need to find a group. There is an ingame system under the Group Finder button on your menu then: “Dungeons, Premade Groups, Dungeons, Find Group”
I would say you want to apply to +2 and +3 keys until you learn the ropes. You may need to apply to a lot of keys (and get rejected) but don’t take it personally. Even high-end players get rejected to 10 or more keys before a group accepts them. It’s a numbers game.
Raiding
You can also participate in Looking for Raid (or LFR). To do this hit Dungeons, Raid Finder, and change the dropdown one of the 4 Amirdrassil raids. This will queue you into a group and you will fight 3-4 bosses from the current raid. The queue may take some time, but you can queue and then go do world quests or something.
You can only get the chance at loot once, per week, per boss, per difficulty. So if you kill Gnarlroot in LFR, even if you don’t win anything, Gnarlroot for LFR you will not see any loot from LFR Gnarlroot.
PVP
For PVP it’s as simple as queuing into a Battleground. You can choose between small groups of 10v10 and 15v15, or “Epic” battle grounds with 20v20 and 30v30. In battlegrounds you’ll be running around as a pvp team trying to complete objectives. You’ll be rewarded with honor points which can be spent at pvp vendors to acquire and upgrade gear.
There is also Arena PVP, where it’s just scrapping with another small team - but that might be better for later when you’re a bit practiced.
The Great Vault
If you click on Group Finder → Mythic + Dungeons → click the lock in the center of the screen. This will show you your “Vault Progress” for the week. It consists of 9 tiles arranged under 3 “pillars”: Raids, Dungeons, and PVP. As you do stuff, the Vault will show which rewards you’ve unlocked for the week. You can think of the Great Vault as kinda like a scratch lotto ticket. You get to “scratch off” the rewards you’ve unlocked for the week. So behind each of the 9 possible tiles is a piece of gear. You only get to select ONE reward from the entire card. But the more content you do, the more tilles you uncover, the more options you can pick from.
Your Vault refreshes on Tuesday mid-day every week, so you’ll see a big pile of people at the vault on Tuesday around lunchtime while people claim their rewards. This is located inside the Bank in Valdrken.
Tuesday also clears the loot lockouts for raid bosses.
Anyway, that’s the highest level overview of “what to do at level 70” for the majority of players. Each of these topics has a huge amount more depths, so if you have any questions feel free to ask.
Tyranttide has written an amazingly good overview!
I’ll just add this link:
https://www.icy-veins.com/wow/fresh-level-70-guide-for-dragonflight
which should provide you with some specific short-term goals.
I will also mention collections of mounts, pets, toys, achievements, and pets. To start your collection, basically start running through all the raids in order, from Molten Core in Classic all the way up to at least Antorus, the Blazing Throne in Legion. You can go beyond that, to BfA and even Shadowlands raids solo, but it gets a lot trickier, and you have plenty to do in lower raids.
Here is a list of raids, with links to information about each:
You can do each raid once per week. From Dragon Soul onwards, you can do each raid on multiple difficulties each week.
If you want to farm old raids, you might look up each on YouTube to get tips about achievemnts available.
I will mention two addons about these collections:
- Better Wardrobe, which helps you find more interesting transmogs
- All The Things, which keeps track of all the things you can collect in WoW. This scares me eveytime I look at it.
As Tyranttide said, so please ask about anything else you want to know.
I’ll just add that the best general strategy is to pick one thing you want to do to start with, and focus on that for a bit. Having a focus can make things feel a bit less overwhelming.
