What the point of leveling anymore?

i’m legit curious, I mean there try and push you to the so call end game content so fast that you can’t enjoy being out in the world killstuff and exploreing place or just I dont know playing the game.

I know alot of people want to get to endgame as fast as they can and to be able to have many alt there as well but were talking about 10% of this game while the other 90% just rots away to be forgotten.

I also get that yes the world is big and big numbers are scary, oh no 200 levels it to much and yes I’m just one guy but when the world itself has no point but to just be there, level now don’t really do anything, I can level from 1 to 80 and i don’t feel like I’m any stronger just more button to push, then why have level at all anymore just get rid of them.

I mean leveling is suppose to be slow not a race it ok if you only get 1 level per day or 2.

I do wonder if they’ll ever decide to do away with leveling. Between scaling content problems and level/stat squishes, I have been wondering if they’ll try the Guild War 2 route and cap leveling.

Sounds like you want the classic section.

Other way around. In classic leveling actually matters because it has yet to be destroyed by scaling.

TC is correct - the leveling process could easily be done away with at this point. Legion saw to that.

If it didn’t exist as a bar to entry for endgame how could they sell you boosts?
And for that matter, what would people who do enjoy leveling have to replace it and retain them as a portion of the game’s income?

Who is pushing you to the end game? No one is pushing me. I sign in, I play, and I go at my own pace. No pressure.

that cool have all the fun you want not goin to stop ya.

hmmm maybe pushing might have been the wrong word, maybe encourage I don’t know but just to be by my recent experience i Decide to give retail a shot since I haven’t really play since Legion or early BFA don’t remember.

Made a brown orc which I know start at level 10 and didn’t talk to chomie(think that how you spell it) level few a few zone about 2 and a half to 3 and it hit level 35 and the world went grey and I started one shoting everything and xp you get from quest shot down to nothing.

Now could I still do them yes, yes I can but I’m encourage to move on so I can can get max xp gain.

Anyway just my thought

There is no way for Blizzard to undo this. Leveling, the journey has been forever damaged to the point of no return. Why do you think they are doing Classic X servers? To try and sate this in some people. Thing is, it is not working well anymore. IMO, I would play another MMO if a living world, the journey, etc is what you want. I play WoW only with a few friends every six months or so before quitting for a while. For that living in the world feel, I stick with something like Lord of the Rings Online.

The way it works now alts are easier to level from 1…which is great.
End gamers can get the world content they clearly loathe out of the way and to their game faster…which is great.
And I can still do all that questing and other world crap at max level, which isnt a bother at all.

yeah, that version of WoW is long dead.
What they should do is an XP slider so players can take more time to level thru various content if thats their thing.

But this has been a thing…fast leveling…since Ive been playing.
If I wanted to level faster I just ran dungeons all day long.
Now I dont have to do that, but can enjoy SOLOING a new alt to max quickly when I want to.

Does anyone know what is the plan for Midnight? Will we be given another ten points and a new talent or will they build on the existing?

For me this is the only purpose for leveling. The earning of a new spell or skill. I know it is also used for updating armor and enemy toughness but that system is flawed. My main was able to get to 78 without even changing a piece of armor or weapon and I had stopped at upgrade level 4.

The problem is that there is too much content with so many older expansions. Chromie time is a great concept but they need to boil it down further and make it more streamlined. I tried it with a few alts but would get them four or five levels and then lose interest. Partially because I do the World content more than dungeon/raid for advancement.

Going forward any new character I create would be done through another remix event or the pre-expansion event. Being at level 60 with a sword that does ten points of damage and was gotten when my character earned level 20 is not right.

Leveling is a good way to learn new specs.

Dopamine.

But I also hated the idea of seeing 120 levels or whatever it was. The leveling in WoW is severely outdated and not fun FOR ME.

Retooling the leveling process would probably break the game even more I imagine but I’d be up to seeing what ideas would come out of a non leveling expansion.

I feel like they’d be almost happier with balancing if it consisted of extra subsystems and elite specs rather than constantly having to watch bigger numbers - they’re already moving there with hero specs

Leveling have hardly ever mattered. Especially not after TBC when they started to raise the level cap, which has had the added bonus of screwing over rest of the game.

No we did not get stronger from 60-70 or 70-80 or 100-110 and so on. Every single time we have had to face off against peasants that somehow rival us in might. The levels are only a gameplay element to stall and reset us, without being explicitly told that we are reset.

GW and GW2 had the right idea, in GW max lvl was 20 on release and still 20 today. GW2 it’s 80 and still 80. Only con with the fixed max level is that it’s harder for the devs to not make you content with the game.

They can keep leveling, but it doesn’t need to be a feature of new expansions. Most of the new hero talent trees are bloated with negligible passives, they easily could have condensed it down to 3-5 skills you earn as you progress through the campaign

What they should have done after SL, since they are so insistent on keeping the 10 level grind. Is to reset us down to 50 on the release of next expansion.

That way they also got the bonus of not having to mess too much with the scaling of 20 years of content since they can focus on the scaling of the latest content.

I rather level fast and get it over with so I can do side quests leisurely.

To sell more level boosts. Because all sense of progression is gone. Level scaling is bad in games. The intent was for all content to be relevant, but, the new expansion is always the only thing relevant.
