I’m at Level 20 right now, and trying to decide if maybe I should respec.
Right now I’m leveling as Retribution, but I’m thinking if maybe I shouldn’t focus on Holy. For one, it’d make it a lot easier for me to get into groups (I had a bear of a time getting into Deadmines, but thankfully I got in and cleared it as DPS. Although the Huntard of the group earned his stripes, running around with a broken bow and Needing on stuff better suited to other players, or which he couldn’t use at all, and then haranguing group members on Trade Chat when he got called out on it). Can a Paladin successfully quest and level as a Holy Paladin? How effective are they?
Or is there some other build I should go for, like a Reckoning build after 32nd level? Looking for some advice from experienced Vanilla Paladins. Thanks.
First thing you have to do when you log into your account with a paladin is to stay in Character Select, select your character, then the next part is EXTREMELY important. You Click Delete Character, Type the word “Delete” and hit ok.
You then Re-roll Horde and play WoW like a Real Gamer.

Unless you plan to be the raid buffer for your guild or become a healer, ret paladins are a joke outside of PvP
Don’t get me wrong even my class shamans are not so good either other than being a restro healer, only thing has me going is enhancement shaman PvP, I want to experience the “one swing and it was over” thrill vanilla shamans had (windfury was scary to cloth classes)
unless the Ret Paladin gets Nightfall. You can get a raid invite just for having that.
You can heal in any specialization.
Well, right now my thinking is what’s best for leveling and doing dungeons as I go. Once I hit 60 I’ll focus on Holy, but I’m wondering if maybe I should focus on Holy now so I can get more dungeon runs, and if it’s viable to quest as, too.
Don’t respec now because it’s pointless. You’ll respec, then level another 10 points and realize you end up putting them in the same place anyway.
At this level you’re just a paladin. You aren’t a holy or ret paladin–just a paladin. What will you do? Put 5 points in int so you get 5% more int from your greens? You have 10 int? So now you have 11 int? Maybe you have 100 int so you have 105?
The thing that makes you holy is your gear. Go find some +int, or +healing even better, and offer to heal some dungeons. What I do, and what I did this time, is 12 pts in ret for pursuit of justice and then the rest in holy. You’ll see as soon as you start putting points in holy that you wouldn’t have benefitted from respec’ing. Do remember there is no decay on the respec cost.
The difference between ret and holy at this point in your leveling experience is gear, not talents. Put on Verigan’s Fist to heal and some other +STR 2 hander to “ret.” or just spam heals and swing your biggest/baddest wep in either “role”

Yeah but If it’s a guild, the warriors are going to get the materials first before the paladin does
Ret 1-40 its the best option, you can quest, heal a dungeon and dps at the same time
at 40 you can go PROT its great for aoe grinding or aoe farming dungeons too wich is faster than questing, or stay ret 1-60 its good for soloing/questing but get good gear pls gear matters
Only go holy if you are running a 5 man for everything and 4 of them are dps, no tanks or respect at 60 to holy
Ultimately, that’s up to you. I wouldn’t do it unless I had a guild that was in constant need of me healing.
The issue is Ret is simply better, generally, for leveling, as most gear you can get is warrior stuff.
You don’t even see real healing gear at all until 50+ dungeons, so holy spec won’t really be that much better healing than Prot or Ret.
If you find healing is in high demand, simply keep offset items that boost your int as a heal set.
There are a few good ways to level as a paladin. Go full ret with Command. At 34 you can go full prot for rek bombing. You can also go full holy and get improved SoR. I personally have gone ret this time around but holy is not far behind in kill times and healing is def better that way. I plan on a 21/0/30 build by the end or possibly 31/0/20 if I want pure spell damage. But you cant really go wrong unless you put points all over the place. Then you wont get anywhere. Hope that helps.
Should be making enough money end game to just buy them from AH imo. If you wanna Raid as Ret, you will get this and will find a way.
Level as Holy. Holy does decent dps and heals. They’re also really good in dungeons.
Yeah right
, those materials will be expensive once they start showing up
Huge emerald: Jewelcrafting didn’t exist in vanilla so your only chance was the thorium veins that even had very low drop rate
Arcanite Bar: once again made with arcane crystal that’s also hard to get in mining
Fiery Core/lava core are rare drops in molten core, once again unless you are the guilds paladin buffer or healer, you ain’t getting in
The only thing easy is the dark iron ore and thorium ore
And then you gotta be exalted with thorium brotherhood to top it all to even get the plan
So yeah he’s gonna need alot of gold or he better be the raid leader
I just watched tonight a bunch of Paladins going nuts and out damage everyone LOL maybe it’s because they aren’t level 60 endgame but leveling them up isn’t so bad it seems. Watched a level 26 one round up 12 mobs and melt them down, I should asked for his spec he is using lol
