What suits Paladins more? Swords or Hammers?

Bolvar dislikes this

Bolvar likes swords.

He’s only using a 2h mace because he’s cosplaying My Most Glorious Primarch Vulcan.

Your canvas.

Paint what you want others to see.

lmao.

That’s old Bolvar. His one and only death came while using sword and board. He swapped over to the mace and hasn’t died since.

*Ok technically didn’t “die” I guess, but close enough.

Bolvar is personally welcome to come talk to me anytime about it. I’ll be glad to remove him of his (admittedly cool) weapon and position…seeing as he sucks anyway.

Traditionally though, going back to root fantasy, paladins are holy warriors usually tasked with slaying the undead. One of the chief form of undead, skeletons, had a big weakness to blunt weapons while their necromancer masters were easily crushed by a hammer as they were cut down by a sword…ergo it was pretty effective to use a hammer.

It depends on what you think looks best on your paladin.

You have to beat Taelia first.

Since Blizz most likely got the idea for the class from the Dungeons and Dragons Paladin class, which (originally) was limited to blunt weapons (because they did not like spilling blood), so I would say Hammers and Maces.

I would welcome this discussion with her…I’ll be in my bedchambers.

This is, of course, assuming she is of proper legal age…I actually don’t know. Pretty irresponsible though letting a minor go off on adventures to entirely different planes of existence though…

Depends. If you go by WC3, hammer. But I like swords due to the traditional knight fantasy.

Paladins without Gavels are like… Judges without Gavels, idunno. The Hammer just fits so nicely, though there are so many greatly fitting swords and axes too. I’d use polearms all the time but the Legion combat animations make it so you’re just swiping an enemy with a comically long sword, I always ran polearms, even on my pally’s back before the animation changes.

Alternatively, if you’re a beefy boi like a Draenei or a Tauren and you look like you can decapitate someone with a hammer, go for it.

You’re thinking Cleric, not Paladin. Paladins could always use bladed weapons. Although it could be argued the vanilla Paladin was more like the D&D cleric.

Based on my brief attempt to Rember the weapons of popular(ish) lore pallies, I think other than the ashbringers it is mostly maces. Sir Zeliek (4 horsmen who retained light abilities in undeath) had a hammer, Renault Mograine had a hammer, Uther had a hammer, Arthas had a hammer. Saidan Dathrohan has a sword in game but some artwork for him from other mediums shows him with a hammer. Turaylon does have a sword.

I like the look of a hammer with protection and holy. Big chonk of a sword for Retribution tho. Unless you can find an even bigger hammer.

Playing Monster Hunter Rise and practicing Hunting Horn so I got bonks on the brain

I think we should take a cue from Diablo and give paladins these giant auras visible on the ground as well as swirling hammers much like the shamans glow ball.

Ransuer.

swords if human
hammers if dwarf

I am partial to hammers myself, but on my Blood Elf and Troll Pallies I have swords. Just felt more appropriate

My blood elf paladin has a “spellsword” and my Tauren paladin uses an axe. I want to make a Dark Iron dwarf and rock the Blackrock set and mace though!

A lot of the paladin spells and talents are hammer themed but some of them are blade themed too.
