What spec for 8.2 Mythic+ and Eternal Palace?

I’m really not sure what’s going to be the go to spec for Mythic + content or raiding.
I’ve been maining Survival throughout BFA and while its fun, I want to play something thats ranged. I’ve seen MM do good single target damage, but so can BM. So of the two, which should I main?

Short version:

MM for raiding
BM for M+

Note: these are the best options for either, but all 3 specs are good enough in both raiding and M+ right now

EDIT: I should add that the BM 3x DoD build is really shining right now and is definitely worth your consideration. Check the icy veins guide for more details.

is BM still competitive with MM in raiding for 8.2?
and is BM just thhe best for AoE due to mastery stacking?

i would do mm /survival on the side … bm is just a boring spec to play

BM is not boring. You and other newbies may find it boring becoz you havent gotten Azerite gear and trinkets to spice up the rotation.

Operation: Mechagon requires a very mobile Class. And BM is there more than qualified for it. Operation: Mechagon is just BM Hunter’s warm up. We need more… we need M+ version of it.

MM will overtake BM as we all get to 445 Ivl but at 415 bm is still as good or better.

BM for dungeons. Whatever spec you want to play for raiding.
BM is better at dungeons because beast cleave is more reliable than trick shots, and pet dispel (enrage/magic) is the best utility we bring to the group.

Frankly, I’ve been playing BM, and overall, yes, the cleave feels pretty good, but the single target is crappy as heck. I’m sure MM would have the opposite problem, great single target, poor aoe.

Actually MM does great if you have at least one Rapid Reload trait on 3+ mobs. The huge problem with MM is movement based fights.

hey, OP here

yea, I’ve tried really hard to like BM. I just can’t. Something about BM’s playstyle I find horribly uninteresting.
At this point, I’m just hoping MM will be the go-to spec as the patch wears on. I play survival, but sadly, it doesn’t compete at the level of BM, and also sadly does not fill out my fantasy of being a ranged damage dealer either.

Im trying out MM at the moment, liking it alot, i dont really have huge issues with movement to be honest, 420 ilvl, Planning to push Cutting edge this patch, dungeon wise i actually enjoy mm alot more, damage is solid

it wont pull ahead like you think. BM scales very well off of secondaries. With the DoD build it will keep pace with MM

I’ve played around with BM a bit today and it feels so bland. I guess I’m just used to the huge frontloaded mm burst. I’m gonna be fair and give it a week.

It’s definitely pretty bland. In my opinion, we lost everything fun the last several years that made BM what it was.

I still play BM but I am hoping for some nice QOL changes next xpac.

See im different… i hate MM. Id rather have both it and BM perform equally.

Really want to give SV a go but im parsing like 17k with it and it feels awful.

Agreed. SV feels like poop to me.

When they first started teasing melee sv it looked pretty solid. Tons of traps, turrets and engineer-esque abilities. What we got sucks.

BFA sv is night and day better than legion sv imho, but its still really bad. Did we really need another melee dps? Especially one that doesn’t know if its bm or not?

It gets better on pure single averaging 27-32k dps single as bm

Start using Essence of the focusing iris early (with pots, lust, BW, racials). It will be satisfying bursty.

Early days obviously and will have to see how we scale but so far apart from Azshara (who seems like a pain for most specs due to LOS issues) the eternal palace seems a lot more BM friendly than the past 2 raids, mostly due to pet uptime.

Many many people find bm boring.

Its very good. Its great. But its boring. It auffers from the samethings aff warlock does
