What should the next season after SoD be?

SoM = harder boss mechanics. SoD = class changes through runes. Of course there’s more going on, but these are the big points. What should the next season be?

I’m curious if we’ll ever see the cut content like player housing, class combinations like the original dwarf mage, additional races like ogre, or allied races like choosing your clan/kingdom from the dwarf race, orc clans, undead highelf, etc. Some are better for a big seasonal hook than others.

Another big game changing one was hero classes. Hero classes were first imagined differently though then when we got in wrath. Think back of the rumored idea of leveling a paladin to become a death knight in wrath.

“A hero class is a character class derived from the base classes, but with exclusive perks. The concept of a hero class is derived from the “heroes” in Warcraft III.”

The term “hero class” is commonly misunderstood to mean that the class is more powerful than other classes. The term instead signifies a unique playstyle and experience, as well as denoting a class of heroes which start at an already “heroic” or “veteran” level, with an experience and gear to match.

All the hero units of Warcraft III were originally supposed to become hero classes in World of Warcraft. Hero classes were still listed in 2005 on the “Under Development” page of the original website. When a character hit level 40, it could start specializing in skills to become the same kind of hero. However, as Blizzard developed talent trees, they dropped the idea as they believed that the trees would provide enough customization. For example, a night elven warrior could specialize into wielding two one-handed weapons and essentially be a demon hunter, while a dwarven warrior could fulfill the fantasy of a mountain king, or an undead warrior could become a death knight.

Other potential heroes: Dark Ranger, Runemaster, Necromancer, Tinker, Death Knight, Demon Hunter, Warden, Spellblade/Battlemage, Spellbreaker, Shadowhunter and more

It would double down on the faction/race/class identity. Only Nightelf warrior or rogues can become a warden for example.

It seems like a complex idea, but very interesting and maybe more preferable than how we got hero classes later.

Would you want to see them try it or maybe something else entirely?

I don’t think we’ll see a class added in that would suit the aesthetic of Classic Era/Vanilla.

What I would expect is more race/class combos like Human Hunter or something to that extent.

These additions in SoD aren’t really revolutionary or ground breaking, but are just enough nuance to give a nod to. That should be how further additions should be.

I mean, honestly, people just wanted more content for Classic+. Slowly turning it into 100% retail would be a bad idea. QoL improvements are a great direction tho.

Mastery, Discovery, ****ery…

Pretty sure the next season will be Season of Tomfoolery.

Season of Battlepass /s

I think they could still use parts of SoM in future seasons as well, especially if they add new zones / raids / etc at level 60… instead of that content going to waste… and just slowly build the world out more with just giving us new incentives to play… maybe have some world events ala Rift. that participating in gives a currency used for something… or add more reputations to zones that don’t have them… Something to keep people out in the world and not in instanced content / city hubs.

I think some fit much better than others. Runemasters, Necromancers, Tinker for example. Very general fantasy class types. Demon Hunter or Death Knight can be tough but if you never played or know anything about legion, all you need is a very good questline to switch into the hero class and class design more in line with classic so it doesn’t feel like the later versions. Monk, for example, would need to be a more western DnD style of monk and not the monks we got in MoP. I don’t think some minor changes are enough to sell a season. That’s essentially what SoM did. Now we’re going to the other deep end of lots of big changes to the classes, which classic and most of the classes desperately need. Something to add to pvp and pve content could be the next thing, like new bgs, rated bgs, new raids, harder small group content not as m+.

Season of Blood

Honor gain now grants experience.

All zones are now contested.

Cant we just like… enjoy the season that hasnt even started yet?

Some of yall are so weird… cant help but think about whats next instead of whats right in front of your face.

I think the some of the current classic era playerbase wants very little class changes maybe none. They basically want the same class meta (50% warriors, rogues, mages with warriors being top) with new raids, dungeons and maybe an endgame zone. Any new good raids and other content that could be applied to that type of server should have its own separate thing. I think that wouldn’t be very appealing to the majority and people who want seasonal servers. The line between classic and retail is a long list of intentional design changes and changes that forced devs into corners. There’s always tradeoffs in decisions. As an example of something leading to more changes was dungeon/raid finder in wrath. Yet, cata introduced harder dungeons and that needed to be nerfed because of the challenge to dungeon finder pugs. Maybe today those pre nerf dungeons would fare better who knows. It was challenging regardless, but too hard for RDF and its a similar story of easy content in LFR. Another pandora’s box being being flying mounts.

That’s… over simplifying SoD… Everyone only seems to be fixated on the Runes when SoD will also have new content. Ashenvale being a HUGE WPvP overhaul for phase 1, zones having entirely new questlines, discoverable treasures and rares, etc.

It’s more fair to say SoD = Experimentation and Exploration!

The next season should be dedicated to WPvP.

season of the jousting murlocs on snails

They turned Ashenvale into a world pvp zone, with presumably other zones having a similar treatment in higher level phases. STV would be amazing for this.

Season of Burnout?
