This is my first expansion/patch ever. I have a main that is 40 Renown and pretty maxed out…(for normal grouping that is)
I was gonna lvl this toon to 60 and then go hardcore on M+ and raiding to gear and grinding anima for mounts, soul ash and all the 9.0 stuff as I figured 9.1 was a few months away… now that it is in less than 2 weeks, is doing any of the 9.0 stuff a waste of time? I don’t know what will happen in 9.1 or how that works so asking here.

Potentially grinding stygia as that will be current currency with the patch… but most other things will be obsolete (gear wise).
If you want anything for mogs or mounts or pets then now is a good time to grind those as you will be busy gearing when the new patch hits 
So soul ash will remain in game and will help me having some going in to 9.1?
I agree with Missunknown. Get your Legendary as high as you can, do covenant campaign and get renown as high as you can.
Honestly it’s not a biggie 9.1 will be out for a while.
Yes you still need soul ash making and getting your legendary up to 235
Anything you do in shadowlands is pointless because it’s a seasonal diablo-style game that has no permanence
New currency to upgrade legendaries beyond 235 (Soul Cinders), so the only reason I would still farm soul ash is for your new alt. Your main will be able to send ash to your alt (1300 to alt for 1500 from main I think). So you don’t have to worry about running torghast on your fresh 60.
Stygia is useful but player power is not locked behind it as it cannot be used to buy sockets. Also will be faster to farm once you can mount in the maw & the eye of the jailer goes away.
Anima will be faster to farm with flying.
So you can relax.

Same… just getting a few to 60 & leaving them there. Gear, renown, ash, legendaries… everything will be much easier to get next month.
So getting soul ash to get a legendary on a fresh 60 isn’t worth it right now? and Renown also? I guess just doing the Covenant questline should be the only priority then?
Get as much soul ash as you can but don’t craft the legendary unless it can go in a jewelry slot (neck/ring). Soul ash will be easier to get in 9.1, but there is no reason to wait until then because there will still be a weekly cap
They are expanding what spots memories can be crafted for in 9.1 to make room for the new raid gear
I would say so. Specially if your main has all the legendaries they need. You’ll still be earning a decent chunk of ash on your main as u run torghast for soul Cinders. If u can’t use the ash, might as well send it to your alts. For renown there’s supposed to be a catch-up to reach level 40. Your alts will learn 2-3 renown for stuff which only gives 1 right now (till they hit 40). So I’m just doing my world boss & collect-souls quest… Am even saving the covenant campaign for later for once I can fly & have better free gear from 9.1 to get my alts to >200. Campaign should go faster then.
