What Shaman Abilities Should Be Baseline?

I don’t know that I’ve ever really played Enhancement to the point I could say I’ve “played” it. But I was horrified today when I read that our Brothers in Enhancement don’t have all the shocks. I knew Blizzard had pruned, I wasn’t aware they they reduced classes down to their skeletal development.

What abilities should be baseline, in your mind, across all specs. And what differences should they have between the specs?

Shocks.
This strikes me as a no brainer. If theres to be modifiers to the shocks based on spec, fine, but they should all have access to them.

Elementals.
I don’t want su having a pet, but Storm should come off the talent tree and be baseline.

Totemic Mastery.
Again, fine with it changing the 4 totems based on spec, but it should be standard for all shaman to have these. I always forget I don’t have it when I go Resto.

The only thing that strikes me that should be baseline is echo of the elements.

Why should storm ele be baseline? I don’t want fire ele to go away.

Earth Shield.
Unleash Elements (Reworked). Each should do something different, Water being a heal, Earth being defensive, etc.
Ancestral Guidance.
Gust of Wind.

Can the elementals have it send us backwards?

Not sure how it would work/be that useful.

Elementals already last a rather short amount of time. And if you take PE they already give a variety of buffs depending on the elemental.

I think he meant like disengage. Though i am sure that would infringe on hunter lore, though DH have similar mobility.

lightning shield, sundering and Ascendance for enhancement.

We are Shamans Masters of the elements we should have a baseline slowfall ability for all three specs. It would be so easy to do, and enh should get back Earth Shock.

They removed Gust of Wind because they said it was too close to Blink, while at the same time literally giving Mages Heroism.
Just as well, Boomkin have Wild Charge, which is literally Disengage.

Blizzard doesn’t even know what the hell they’re talking about when it comes to this stuff. They contradict themselves constantly.
I lost all respect for whoever balances Shaman many expansions ago, and I foresee that staying at zero next expansion.

I agree with you. I am just telling you the answer you will get.

Shaman history is plagued with stuff we had that was taken and given or just replicated and given to other classes.

Dispel protection. Dispelling FS gave us a significant haste buff. We lost it and it was given to destro locks

Cast while moving. Taken and given to fire mages

Hero/lust given to everyone

Water walking given to lock mount then better version to DKs then mount and now mount accessory

And so on. GoW was just the most recent.

Shaman doesn’t get nice things and when they do it is either a crappy version of something else or it is as stated above copied/taken and given to someone else.

Agreed on every point.
This is essentially why I went Holy Priest after finishing Mythic Uldir.

Shaman has nothing left for me.
Pretty sure they don’t want to give Shaman any real power or unique abilities because if Shaman somehow became popular or the #1 DPS, people would flip. They would hate being “forced” (As many FOTM players would put it) to reroll Shaman to “compete”.

So, they just put the bare minimum amount of effort into us and call it a day.
Hell, they won’t even give us a reset on Ankh from wipes because (As Ion said) “Reincarnation is a very powerful defensive cooldown”.

Sure, Ion.
A half-HP self-res every half-hour is more powerful than Ice Block/Turtle/Bubble that prevents the death in the first place, and negates entire mechanics.

Feral lunge just needs to go. Why would you want a crappy version of charge? Enh already plays like a sh$%@y version of fury warr. Imp GW should just be a thing and you ppl should learn how to use it properly.

Yeah I didn’t see the value in that when I was trying Enhancement last night. The only thing I can think is it does make us a bit more of a terror for casters.

The argument I try to make often is that enhancement has no unique flavor. And almost every time I say that someone goes “No it’s fine, the numbers are great” or “we just need WF back.” And it strikes me as the equivalent of saying “I don’t think he committed the crime, his shoes don’t match his tie.” It’s not what we’re talking about and it’s not even close to the point.

I love feral lunge. I would miss it alot. Improved GW does not perform the same role.

Feral lunge allows for instant gap closing, allows you to ignore snares in doing so, and allows you to cross/scale/descend terrain. It seems much more critical for pvp than for pve but Ii’d prefer not to have to sacrifice one of the 3 pvp talent slots for it.

What do you mean by that? Enhance feels pretty unique to me. The aesthetic and class fantasy is definitely unique among melee classes. In terms of the toolkit, Fury is probably closest but doesn’t have the ranged abilities, off-healing capability, dispels, totems, temporary pets, etc.
