What server to pick for Philippines

Hello, I’m a new player to WoW and would like some server recommendations for my country Philippines (South East Asia).
Preferably with lowest ping and good for gold making (lots of active players).

Probably the Asian servers? Chinese or Korean maybe? Look on a globe or map and see which is closer to you.

I found out that Asian servers mostly don’t speak English.
I would like to have an English speaking server.

There two i know of. One is Korean and other is oceanic. Oceanic has the better servers and the ping not that bad if got good internet.

Probably one of the Oceania servers?

If you’re on the US client.

Try testing out the ping to a westcoast server like Tich or Proudmoore. Additionally try an Aussie server like Frostmourne or Barthilas.

OP, you’d probably be in the same boat I am in from being in Japan.

You’d want to try…

the oceanics first. then maybe a US server for giggles. I am on cael and nagrand. decent servers. Chosen since friends in the region said they use them and decent places. I can’t speak for other servers but we all shard so most oceanics are cool. Our server group setup we see lots of other OCE servers regardless.

Sometimes at least for me the ping can worse using oceanic than going US direct. this week and last have been okay. Some weeks though I see at least 30ms ping difference. US being lower and better.

Lacking details about their topology I’d gather its when the oceanics shard to US on a route to the US with some higher costs.

This is why personally I make WRA and MG (Us servers) my main play servers. These are RP servers so if not into RP look at other options. I chose them since when oceanic ping is worse than usual…they US shots directs are better.

I’d try a test char on an oceanic and US server and see what ping works out better long term. Or if you can like the oceanic ping variances enough to stay.

and population. Make sure enough US people are on when you are to keep it lively basically.

Thank you so much for the detailed help Duvainil. :grinning:
I did try Frostmoune OC and Sargeras US.
In OC 190ms(home), 160(world)
In US 230(home), 250 (world)
I guess OC would be best option since it’s also English speaking.

Looking like it.

And with the OCE servers we combine a lot in our groups so you see a few of them. So pick one you still see most of the family as it were nightly so that is cool.

I’ve been playing as an American overseas for many years…I like hanging out with the Aussies and New Zealanders a lot. I’ve even found a few in my US crews lol.

Try Frostmourne (Oceanic) for Alliance, Barthilas (Oceanic) for Horde. They have highest pop for Asia + Oceania.

I play from Japan like Duvainil but never tried out OCE servers.

When I first started playing, I didn’t know that US servers has East coast / Central / West coast servers, and ended up making a character on a East coast server realm of all servers, because my friend played on that realm.

I would assume my ping might be slightly better than now if I played on West coast servers, but oh well. My current ping is 170 - 190 ish.

I also played from Thailand for a while and my ping was usually 280 - 320.

I just never trusted the re-routing ping pong game between US and OCE, so I never tried out OCE servers. Besides, I main Horde so playing on Alliance heavy OCE server probably wasn’t a good choice for me anyway.

Your ping for OCE doesn’t seem too bad. Hope you find your good home!

I play on Terokkar, but that was a choice i made well before i moved to Philippines in 2015. i rarely see less than 233 ping thru Converge ICT cable internet. PLDT was slightly better but i haven’t been able to play on their network since the quarantine began in March.

Plus server mover fees add up lol. WHy I keep a couple on cael like this one for alliance and a couple on nag for horde.

Moved a few over…wasn’t cheap.

PLus the really cool thing about OCE servers is when blizz is having server issues usually OCE is fine.

When BFA launched and many US servers were choking out…I hopped in fine day 1 anytime.

When classic launched and servers were dying the OCE’s were steady as a rock.

So if SL acts up day 1 for my US servers well then this DH may be the SL leadoff.

Hello! I am playing from Philippines, US west coast Nesingwary. It is med pop and AH sucks for making gold. One huge thing to consider is latency as being from Philippines you know how bad ISP are.

I would recommend a good VPN (exitlag) and make toons on few realms and test your latency. Oceanic realms can be up and down, same with US west coast, all depends of routing and that’s where a good VPN comes in.

If you’re on face book I belong to good world of warcraft group for players from Philippines, they are very helpful in finding good realm that will meet your needs. Good luck!

I have converge as well, same latency, with exitlag I get 150-155 solid, might want to check it out!

Let me rephrase this - I never “had faith” in the re-routing roulette lol.

Having a backup plan is always nice, yes!

That’s nice! I’ll try thinking about VPN, don’t really want more monthly fees though
I just joined a WoW Ph group in FB with 6.2k members, you might’ve seen my post asking for good realm in Ph, they suggested Horde = US-Bonechewer ; Ally = OC-Frostmourne.

Tichondruis is a full pop realm. Generally, full pop realms will have a little more latency (like > 25ms) when lots of people are online.

To OP, depends on what you want to do. New player interested mainly in leveling might want pick a medium pop realm located in California. Rolling on a Chicago server will add more latency.

Also, see what the ping times are from your ISP to the Oceanic realms. May or may not be better depending on how your traffic is routed.
