What’s your “ideal” version of the game?

Like at what point in time were you most satisfied with wow. I loved wotlk and I gave mists of pandaria so much crap when it came out but I’ll be honest I’d be ok with the game being the way mists was. So for me it’s a two way tie between mists and wotlk. What about you?

You and me both OP.

I mean I almost feel guilty how much I hated on the pandaria opening and the start of that expansion but towards the end it was truly an amazing experience. Granted cata was rough and warlords was even worse .

I liked the beginning of Wrath when you still had the RPG elements and the end of MoP when they removed the golden lotus rep reqs.

I missed Legion

Vanilla-WotLK was the golden years, MoP was honestly really good imo, class design was the best during MoP, the raids were solid, I personally enjoyed the dailies, the zones were nice, the story was good and so on. I still miss my banners ffs.

I would have to say MoP tbh.

MoP was probably my favorite iteration. Burning Crusade following closely behind it.

Well I don’t know that there was ever an “ideal” time, but closest to it would likely be MoP.

My expansion manifesto as follows:

  1. WOTLK
  2. MOP
  3. Legion
  4. Cata
  5. BFA
  6. WOD

I felt class designed really peaked in mists, legion was good too and the idea of class fantasy was amazing. I wish we could get back to wows roots and every class didn’t feel the same with a different skin.

My ideal version of the game?

  • Content going forward, like retail itself.
  • Old talent trees, no matter how better the current talents are, they feel more “Moba-like” than an RPG itself.
  • Class design being based on fantasy rather than competitive balance.
  • Make social interaction more important, keep LFG but remove the horrendous LFR and LFD - I am extremely anxious and introverted, even though I would like interacting more with people in WoW, I just don’t feel the necessity to.
  • World being the main character, not the player, like the founding principle of vanilla.
  • And at last, player feedback mattering.

I think the problem with player feedback is somethings can’t be decided by us as a community. People complained gear was too hard to get… they made it easier… now it’s too easy to get gear and then they complained not enough daily content to do. And here we are getting 70 rep a wq. It’s tough to balance and I get it. Class fantasy is important to me and you’re 100 percent right . It needs to matter.

I’d say probably closer to nothing can be decided by us as a community. I think if you asked 10 people a question you would somehow manage to get 11 answers.

That’s true lol

I could go back to MOP.
Flight at max level…and very compelling content. Art is amazing. Well, BFA has some seriously good art, but sucks in every other conceivable manner.

I could literally go live in Pandaria its so enjoyable.
Ive done the Tiller rep twice and looking forward to doing it again.

As far as classes…I dont mind them being altered here and there, but blizzard has a real knack of knee jerk overblown reactions.
Such as the hunter needed TWEAKED…not its pets aggro ability nerfed into the dirt so its not even worth having a pet anymore.

Like with most things, the truth lies somewhere in the middle.

It’s true that nothing can be decided by “us as a community.”

It’s also true that in WoD the arms warrior community was unanimously against the design choices… while the devs themselves sat back and said “nah it’s fine.” That is what we mean by player feedback mattering.

Yeah but it seems the current direction is “what we say goes and you’re going to do it this way!” Like all the fun detected memes are funny but they really hold some weight. They want you to play the way they want you to instead of how you want to. I think that’s a major problem with the current climate of wow.

As far as ideal version of the game In my opinion I played the most during WotLK and Legion than any other expansion. Those expansions are the ones I have the best memories from and truly enjoyed the content. Close runners ups even though I didn’t play as much in was MoP and BC.
I think the ideal version of the game is the players choice on what they really enjoyed in any of the content.

Ideal version of the game for me honestly is BC.

Burning crusade for me had:

  • Best talents
  • Best talent trees
  • Best-ish skills (other expansions nailed certain classes better than others)
  • People didn’t demand flying / it wasn’t “the norm” to be flying around at light speed
  • Old world still had plenty of people leveling in it, it didn’t feel empty
  • The best looking tier sets hands down and that’s a fact
