What rolling Horde has taught me

While I have not been playing WoW for the full 15 years, I thought I was pretty familiar with the world of Azeroth and it’s sentient beings.

In the past, I’ve had two human warriors, a human mage and Draenei Paladin. I completed quests all over Kalimdor, the Eastern Kingdoms and especially Northrend. Throughout my travels and battles and a fair amount of PvP I had truly grown to believe that the Horde were scum. Massive Tauren beasts, filthy Orcs, hideous Trolls and the vile and putrid Undead; surely no line of thought or reasoning could shine these creatures in a positive light.

But I learned a bit more about the lore (seriously, Nobbel the Noble, folks) and my curiosity drove me to roll Undead for Classic. What I have learned in the process betrayed everything I believed about the Horde.

Orcs are a proud race of warriors from a shamanistic society that have been manipulated and enslaved by multiple beings.
Trolls are more sophisticated in their history and ideals than I would have imagined.
The undead are a walking tragedy essentially created by human folly and the ease in which humans can be manipulated.

Perhaps the most noble and pure of all races are the mighty, yet gentle Tauren who care about peace, balance and tranquility more than any other dominant race on Azeroth.

I may never go Alliance again. Where I once saw nobility I see conceit. Humans on Azeroth (much like here on Earth) have been more of a cancer to life than a benefit. Dwarves are just drunken fools with hideous beards, gnomes are but puntable and belong on front lawns and Night Elves only pretend they are as spiritual as Tauren.

I can see clearly now.

The only horde anyone should respect are blood elves. Kings compared to the mud hut clowns.

Yet Blood Elves are the most inherently evil of all Horde races

See, we’re not so bad are we?

I like both factions and have characters on both sides. Now adays i cant bring myself to play horde though. I refuse to be a part of the unbalanced faction problem.

Oh, my God, why? Why do people do this.

If you review the evils of both factions, the Horde far outweigh the Alliance. This generally has to do with Orc’s, Forsaken, and to a slightly lesser extent Bloodelves, all of whom make up the bulk of the Horde.

Any “proud race of warriors” is going to be problematic for any races that desire peace as is a race of undead that can barely feel any emotion and just want to murder everyone, oh and the Bloodelves are power hungry drug addicts who care about no one except themselves. How many times can orcs be “manipulated” to commit horrible deeds such as genocide against the Draenei? Dropping a nuke on the innocents of Theramore? Bringing the Burning Legion to Azeroth via Guldan (Bloodelves also share blame), before they have to accept blame. These are only a few of many more examples.

Let’s not forget the most recent events in BFA of the Horde burning Teldrassil to the ground, literally BURNING WOMEN AND CHILDREN ALIVE, this isn’t conjecture, it’s cannon in the BFA novel that came with the collectors edition. There is literally a poem about a mother watching herself and her children slowly dying to the fires. Yeah, some proud race.

The Alliance have literally become the good guys by default as a result of the Horde doing insanely evil acts over and over again.

Listen, I played Horde in Vanilla, when the factions were more “grey” which is how I preferred it. It felt more shamanistic and tribal, and more about survival than anything else. But since then the lore has put the Horde in a very negative light, they are not being hunted, they go out looking for fights.

I left the Horde in TBC when the Bloodelves came over and literally became half the faction population, it never felt like the same Horde again when all I saw were prissy men and women hopping about working on their outfits and being “cute”.

The Alliance mission for the last 15 years has been one of peace, the Horde’s has been death to the “enemy”. If you call that honor and glory, well, you found the right faction.

Tauren should be Alliance at this point, you guys killed Cairne Bloodhoof and then we saved his son Baine from you guys executing him as well.

Your sense of judgement seems rather warped.

What’s this BfA you speak of?

I wish orcs were bloodthirsty mosnters like in the two first Warcraft games, and Thrall was an exception to the rule trying to tame them. I don’t like the “They were all like Thrall before the Legion came.”

Pride is considered a sin for a really good reason. It’s putting your self worth above possible alternatives that would lead to mutual gain for one thing.

You know, like working together to defeat a mutual enemy.

With that said, yeah of course the alliance has bad guys. They wouldnt be able to convince you to stay otherwise.

As someone who mained Horde back in vanilla, Horde are the bad guys.

Orcs are an invasive force of low IQ brutes who thought drinking demon blood was a great idea.
Forsaken are literally evil and want to kill everyone with a new plague, even the intro voiceover states that their alliance with the horde is merely one of convenience. Not to mention they have allowed a dreadlord to control a large portion of their activities.
Trolls are low IQ primitives with close cousins who practice blood sacrifice and what not.
Tauren are the only ones with redeeming qualities, but their alliance with the Horde contradicts their whole peaceful environmentalist ideal.

Medivh would like a word with you.

I… am the reason for the Legion’s return. Years ago, I brought the orcs into this world, and by doing so, I opened a path for the demons as well. For my sins, I was murdered by those who I cared for the most. Despite my death, war raged across the lands of the east for many long years, leaving entire kingdoms devastated in its wake. Now, at long last, I have returned to set things right. I… am Medivh, the Last Guardian. I tell you now, the only chance for this world is to unite in arms against the enemies of all who live!

I was referring to the repeated purposeful attempts by Guldan and the Bloodelves to bring the burning legion to Azeroth. Medivh unknowingly did it while saving an entire race. Huge difference but nice try.
