Riot games has league of legends but is making shows and multiple spinoff games based on that same IP.
Why did blizzard not do this with world of warcraft… we got Hearthstone and that’s it??? A WoW single player action adventure game, a turn based rpg game, a 2D fighter.
Maybe if blizzard focused on its Warcraft IP and expanding it instead of spending millions on Overwatch then pumping millions to force it to be an esport we could have all these warcraft things.
Blizzard you have so much potential instead you’re stuck making trash stuff like diablo 4 that no one cares about.
Even if you do care about it, let’s be honest most diablo fans are going to hate on it.
Making the movie based on Warcraft 1 was a rookie mistake.
If world of warcraft wanted to go the movie route it should have done it like star wars, Lord of The Rings or Harry Potter starting the story in the middle then stepping back after it’s success.
Imagine if the movie was based off something interesting like the fall of Silvermoon or the fall of Arthas ending the movie with the culling of stratholme
They had many avenues to go but instead they went the story that had the weakest narrative.
The movie was a disaster. A 5 minute prologue like in LoTR would have made it a 100 times better.
What Riot did with Arcane could’ve been Blizzard with Overwatch. Just imagine that, an Anime following Overwatch, Blackwatch and Talon. Their origins, missions, failures.
Warcraft doesn’t really have a big coherent storyline, it lives from the whole world being active and telling their stories. It would’ve to be an epic TV Series like Game of Thrones was. But I doubt that Blizzard will ever achieve something like that.
A Single Player RPG, Turn Based Co-Op RPG, more RTS or Round Based Strategy would be awesome and fit it quite well. It could tell an alternate story What if the Champions would have never existed
I always thought Overwatch would have been a better show than a game, but eh. I know they tried a WoW movie… poorly. I dunno. Blizz just doesn’t seem to have the, I dunno, multimedia smarts of other studios. Or, maybe they just never felt the need since they’d been on top so long. But if they decided to makes some GOOD spinoff content I’d give it a whirl.
They actually are. Last year it was confirmed they have two Warcraft mobile games in the works. And there was the attempt at WC3 Reforged too. But what one company does isn’t what all of them have to do. WoW has never been in much need of spin offs. I think it might be better to be able to put more focus on one very large game instead of dividing their attention to many smaller side ones.
Diablo’s also one of Blizz’s biggest titles right behind WoW. I think a lot of people are excited for D4. Especially since it’s getting extremely long development time. So hopefully it’ll be pretty polished. D2 Resurrected also shows the series is still strong. But that’s made by a completely different team than Warcraft’s stuff.
Because it is evident that Riot has a plan and a multi year roadmap going forward and WoW is doing the bare minimum to keep getting paid based on its past work.
About three or so years ago Riot stated hiring authors from Games Workshop, who not only wrote novels for them but worked on lore and rule books as well. Started fleshing out their world with cinematically, comics and such.
Let’s face it, even if Blizz were to do an animated series like Arcane I highly doubt Danuser or the rest would give up control on it. Blizz needs more than just a leadership change, it needs a whole new attitude and direction
Hearthstone, HotS, Warcraft RTS. I’m not sure why you want them to ignore WoW and make other games. Trion did that to Rift and it went down the toilet.
As a person that has played OW since beta and has over 8000 matches played I am glad they didn’t take this route Overwatch is the only other game I play
If you guys could do me the courtesy of packing your gold and mats into a large sack so that I can easily collect it from your bodies after dying on the hill I shall appreciate it and sing songs of your legend in 10.0 when Blizz adds Bards :]
