What rating is World of Warcraft?

Hello,

What current rating is World of Warcraft?

Recently when playing the game, I have seen a lot of people saying they will report people who have used curse words towards them.

I am not talking about sexist, homophobic or racists words, I am talking about simple curse words which don’t have any meaning towards a specific population of people.

This trend I have been witnessing has been growing in my opinion and I honestly think it’s ridiculous. If you can’t handle curse words, there is a filter for that. If the person doesn’t leave you alone, there is a block/ignore button for that.

If that doesn’t help, sure, report the person for harassment.

T for teen, so that is 13-years-old and up. Some of the colorful language people use might be inappropriate for someone that young. You’re free to say what you want, but people are also free to report you.

B for bad design.

They do have meaning and you signed an EULA that says you won’t use them. It’s a T rated game.

I also don’t understand why the ability to do this is so important to some people, especially in a game meant for teenagers. Is wanting to be able to curse at someone without the fear of repercussions really the hill you want to die on?

Lack of self-control combined with a childish need to push against any kind of authority that inconveniences them.

I swear like a sailor and have no issue not swearing if the environment demands that I hold back.

Someone actually cursed at me recently in /say for tagging their mob in world content (no idea why, the mobs are shared lol) , I tried to report because I’m pretty sure you used to but there was actually no option to report for language or communication or anything, only cheating, so they must have removed the option to report in /say for some reason. Goes to show how much Blizzard actually cares about cursing in-game. You can, however, still report for “communication” in Trade chat.

None of these people would last an hour in retail lol

The censor filter is not an excuse to curse like a drunken sailor. If people are feeling forced to turn it on then there’s a deeper problem with the language being used.

Frankly I’m having trouble seeing folks report you for very occasional swears. I see folks say some in an RP context, including myself, with no consequence. If you’re going after someone due to a fit of anger or wanting to be a jerk though? I agree with that being actionable.

Well, we kind of agreed to not use bad words when we signed the contract. It’s one thing amongst friends and guildies, another when it’s in Trade/Barrens chat because you don’t know who is reading it.

We try to keep the chat actually civil. There is no reason to be cussing in trade chat.

This. I was a Marine: if I can keep it civil, then so can you.

The fun thing is that profanity is 100% actioned by player reports. If you are in a private space with people that you know are accepting of the language you want to use, like a guild or a party chat, then feel free to swear like a sailor.

If you want to go off in public spaces then there might be consequences.

It’s kinda like how real life works. Which makes you wonder how some of these freeze peach fans make it through that.

Sure there’s a filter for that, but fyi I said that to a Green awhile back and the response was one of essentialy" that’s not the purpose of it and people still can report for colorful language use.

I know doesn’t really make sense but that’s what was told .

It’s there for people who would rather not see that type of languange.

It is not created to allow those wanting to use that language a free pass to do so.

Yeah, exactly that. Really whatever happens in private happens in private. It’s only an issue when you make it public and you’re just going off or, in some situations, going hard.

(I’ve seen some public things, don’t you worry now.)

I was around during the raw days of gaming where under the guise of animosity people said some real vile things just because they could, but those days are well gone now. Just be decent in public spaces. Bam. Issue solved.

T for teen and yeah it’s always been a thing to report folks for cursing. There’s a blue post on it somewhere… idk where though.

T for Teens man, Got some sexy outfits, some bloody imagery and decomposing corpses and the like. And the last serious curse word was Garrosh calling Sylvanas the B-Word!
