Gnome Hunters. They only did this because “guns.” But I think a universal part of being a hunter is being an outdoorsy person, and that doesn’t seem to be a Gnomish thing to me.
Worgen Death Knights. How they justify them is really weird. They were from Shadowfang Keep from before what happened in Gilneas happened and they were taken by the Lich King. That’s a huge stretch and even so, why care about Gilneas or the Alliance? It’s not really established that they’re Gilnean.
Orc Mages. I know, I know the “Ogres”. But the Ogres were the Orc’s oppressors for a while. And whenever I think of Orcish magic I think mysticism and spirituality, not the science that Arcane magic is.
Troll Mages. It’s a similar problem to Orc Mages for me. Trolls are wild, unkempt, disorderly. Things that Mages cannot be. Plus where did they get taught Arcane magic?
Goblin Priests. Why? There are several good theories for why they can be Shaman-it’s from before they were smart, they like to make deals with the elements. But Priests? Priests are loyal to their very ethereal causes. That’s not what Goblins do. Goblin Warlocks can at least see a net gain from their corruption but I can’t imagine they’d want to give up their sanity to the Void or their freedom to the Light. It’s very odd.
(Btw I don’t really have a problem with Goblin Hunters because Goblins at least live in areas surrounded by nature and like to destroy it.)
Azeroth has been around so long there’s almost a premise for every race/class combo.
I try not to think of classes as a lifestyle, but more of a skill set. A Human Paladin can be just as much of an a-hole as a Goblin Priest. A Forsaken Warlock can be just as heroic as an Orc Warrior.
The worgen death knights are the only one that really bothers me. The rest are odd, but I actually prefer to see variety within these races. Sure, gnomes generally aren’t much for the outdoors, but what about those who are? Maybe they’re fascinated by biology or climate science, and take a more clinical approach to their job.
Orcs already have warlocks, so I don’t think mages are much of a stretch (though one wonders how warlocks and shamans react to mages). Trolls once possessed vast empires, so they clearly have the smarts for magic, and who’s to say that they didn’t have hedge wizards during their tribal days?
As for goblin priests, religion has traditionally been a fine way to make money.
This was touched on a bit in Chronicles. The Zandalari were taught Arcane magic by the Mogu, back during their ancient alliance. Presumably, it spread from the influential Zandalari to the other Troll tribes, including the Jungle Trolls who would one day go on to become the Darkspear.
I can still kinda buy into these, too. Again, thanks to Chronicle. The Orcs are descended from Breakers that Aggramar literally infused with Arcane armor and wards into their hides. A bit of the Arcane is quite literally, in their blood. Cultural limitations though, are of course a thing, and I don’t think Orc Mages should be commonplace. But they don’t bother me.
Orc Mages were trained by the Forsaken, not the Ogres or from their relation to Warlocks. The first students of orcish culture studied in Undercity, some of them were successful, and some of them…
I always figured that gnomes, dwarves, and goblins had greater muscle density to compensate for their small sizes. Pack a much harder punch than one might think…
Culturally yes, but their moonwells are Arcane and so is some of the Druid magic.
Tl;dr, Nelves are huge hypocrites.
More on topic, I don’t fully understand why Lightforged Draenei can be Mages but not any of the other alternate belief systems. I think the reason they can’t be shaman and monk is that Lightforged are supposed to be blind zealots of the Light. (Every other allied race can be monk). So why can they be Mages with all its innate danger? Maybe they were just desperate to give them more classes? (Yes I know there were Lightforged mages on Argus)
Gnome priest never made much sense to me. Just… why? Goblin priests are at least somewhat explained by 1. Being comic relief and 2. The exorcising the ghost in the machine quest in Azshara.
I don’t fully understand why Nightborne can be Warlocks but Highmountain cannot. Similar stories but one can be and the other can’t? Highmountain locks would’ve been great btw.
My problem is they aren’t in game. You had the perfect ingredients to make them, we had Gul’dan, a desperate invasion and a power mad leader willing to sacrifice her people for victory all in the city at the same time. But we never got deathknights out of it.
Mag’har, Troll, Gnome, and any other race that has priests, and warriors, but for some reason not paladins. Being a paladin has been so thoroughly diluted that the only requirements appear to be holy magic and martial skill. Should be in game.
Dwarf druids. Bearded bear, bearded cat, bearded owlbear, short term buff that creates a bearded trent… I want dwarf druids.
Probably Night Elf Mages to be honest. It’s the one race class combo that flat out breaks previously established lore. Others might not make sense, but dont break lore like Night elf mages do, It would be like getting draenei warlocks.
When Draeneis leave his native planet (Argus) they split in two groups. One group was the one we meet in Burning Crusade, Draeneis who were traveling around the Great Dark Beyond looking for a new home planet while hiding from the Burning Legion. Meanwhile the second group they take a diferent route following to the naaru called Xe’ra, those draeneis were elite fighters who were preparing to fight against the Legion, infusing them self with the power of the Holy Light and becoming lightforged.
As you can see the first group was looking for refuge, but the other one was just preparing for war.
But both group have something in common, they were from Argus, and at this planet the Draeneis build a marvelous society based on arcane magic, where this race show a great skill for arcane magic. And that is why Sargeras corrupted them, to use theyr inmense potential on magic for his own porpouse, but this is another story.
Wath you must know is both groups of Draeneis (the common ones and the lightforged) they came from Argus, where they develope an inmense and deep knowledge about arcane magic, and because of this commons draeneis and lightforged can both be arcane mages.
By the other side the Lightforged they weren’t in Draenor (or maybe Outland will be the word), wich was the place were commons draeneis learn the ways of shamanis by Nobundo, former dranei paladin and later broken shaman and the first shaman in draenei society. So, while commons draeneis were in the shattered Draenor learning the ways of shamanism, the lightforged were in somewhere at the Great Dark Beyond and having no knowledge of the recent discovery from his brothers from Outland. So, they had no way to learn anything about shamanism.
See ya!
