What PC to Buy

Helllllooo.

I haven’t been able to get back into the game for some quite time ended up getting a PC. Was able to play for sometime but then started to have issues. I currently have an Aerocool X Strike One it is 7 years old and will not connect to the internet as well as wants to update to Windows 11… So I wanted to see about buying a new one preferable under 500$ and not a laptop.

In the current PC market which is INFLATED TO HIGH HECK you will be hard passed to find anything game worthy in that price range. Now is probably one of the worst times to buy a new PC. It sounds like its just your internet card that has failed.

Maybe just buy a replacement card? or maybe a USB Wifi 6E Adapter?

I’ll try to look into it. Ended up buying a wifi extender box and it really did nothing…shows everybody else’s internet accept my own. Spectrum even said the PC was showing connected on their end.

If everyone’s home network on your computer is showing up but yours isnt that mans there is an issue with your router at your house not your computer Id call a buddy who knows they are doing to pop in and get you connected before you buy anything at all

i would try to save all important files/pics/vids to an external drive and do an operating system reset. 7 years old is not that old depending on the specs

and yeah 500 bucks will not get you much.

what is the current spec?

I dont mean to sound rude or anything here but did you read their comments? You may have missed this comment

They are wanting to buy a new computer due to this. They dont need a new computer. The new one will have the same issue if the issue is with their home internet not the computer.

Sound like what the Op actually needs is someone to come and look at their home network.

I was able to play before we ended up getting upgraded Internet. But since we have upgraded to the highest internet my PC has failed to work. They did come out and change the router box because of having issues.

Sounds like you still have issues. If your computer shows every ones network but yours the issue is NOT with your computer

  1. have you re-booted your PC since this upgrade?
  2. is the PC hardwired connected to the internet or through wi-fi?
  3. can you get the network on other mobile clients? Cell phones, roku streamers, tablets, laptops, etc.,?
  4. has windows updated to 11?
  5. perhaps you need new drivers?

Lillybugg it has to 100% be his home internet connection because he’s already stated on his computer he can see everybody’s network but his which means the issue is not with the computer

It’s the only explanation because he can see other networks he just can’t see his. If it was his computer he wouldn’t see other people’s networks on it.

He’s saying he pulls up the Wi-Fi and he sees everybody’s Network but his

Hmmm, some guesses based on my experiences:

  1. See if your router is configured to use the same frequency as your wifi adpater. I had a device that couldn’t pick up my router because it only supported 2.4Ghz and my router was configured for only 5Ghz, so I had to enable the option for 2.4 too.

  2. Is your router broadcasting your SSID (your network name)? If it’s set to hidden, you’ll have to type in the info manually for your PC.

i wonder…. if they gave you a modem only box instead of a modem/router combo box. stranger things has happened

Guys? These are all excellent suggestions however and I mean no offense when I say this; but I dont think the OP is very Tech Savy. Which is 100% fine. Not everyone is.

I think the best course of action in this case is for the OP to schedule a Technician Appointment with his internet service provider before he or she buys a single thing. Have them physically come out and get him or her back online NOT try to him him over the phone. This is clearly a home internet issue not a computer issue since he can see everyone’s Wi-Fi network but their on their computer.

This will be easier and far less confusing for the OP. This is the same advice Id give a family member in this exact situation who lives in another state where I am unable to personally go take a look.

I wish you luck OP but this is probably the best course of action for you.

We have other electronics in the household that will connect just fine. I literally have a Xbox right beside the PC that is connected to the internet. The PC would like to update to Windows 11 but it is unable to do so. When detecting problems with the internet it does say something about IP. The requirements that aren’t met for is TPM 2.0 must be supported and enabled as well as The processor isn’t currently supported for Windows 11. I don’t understand any of this so I haven’t been able to really figure it out

oh…. can you connect an ethernet cable from the PC to the router? if you can then just disable the wireless service. wired is much better anyway

Unfortunately that isn’t an option and I don’t have one. No room for PC to be plugged in and it’s in the next room.

Ok. The only thing I can think of now is to reset the network settings on the PC

Edit:
Maybe if you can move the PC temporarily near the router and connect with ethernet, and run windows update

Like others suggested it could be the IP settings for your network.

Could try these steps.

Most likely your wifi extender box isn’t working. I had the same issue when I was wireless, until I got this.

It’s not wired, but it’s alot better then wireless.

I only looked on newegg so this isn’t extensive research.

The cheapest PC I would personally buy on the site if I was on a budget like that, that would play wow decently is a refurbished HP prebuilt for $539.99. This will play wow at middleish settings up to 1440p. This is from personal experience of buying and returning a 1660 pared with a 10600k. Some intense stuff may bring the FPS a bit on the low side but will be pretty playable. I didn’t go through the whole thread, but it looks like maybe you just need a NIC or some PC troubleshooting though. The biggest negative to this pc is the 8bg ram but upgrading to at least 16gb should be pretty easy and not too expensive at some point in the future.

The next PC up that I would recommend is an open box for $722.00 with a 3060 and an i 11400. So under 500 is pretty tough for sure.
