What now blizz?

Could you let us know what you plan for the future of SoD?, I dislike retail and find Era very boring to play after playing sod. Will you keep adding new content to era?.

First time I did KC last night and it was very fun, the mechanics felt very retaily…which you need to be careful of…but overall was very good.

The most common guesses are it moving into TBC and people seem to love or hate that idea

The next is an actual classic+ this one seems to be more well recieved than going into TBC

Unsure when we will get any official announcement from blizz of whats coming next or when

Why would they move it to TBC? That doesnt make sense at all. The whole idea of a classic+ style game is that it stays classic. More horizontal progression rather than vertical. This isnt another classic moving forward through the expansions.

It’s not moving anywhere. It’s over. This is it. Classic+ won’t happen because every new thing is simply to challenging for classic Andy’s. Kara and SE both were considered way overtuned for the avg player apparently. TBC is the only real thing they can do because the content is super easy. Any thing more than 1 ignorable mechanic and tank n spank fights is to hard so why would they make anything new. Just go TBC or end it. Most likely they will end it.

You still dont get it nor the concept of classic+. The whole concept is expanding on the quests and the storyline within classic and using new abilities while doing so. SoD is a testing grounds for classic+. Maybe they will add more to it, maybe they wont. But they arent going to move it to TBC. It literally doesnt make sense in a classic+ style gameplay.

For example, many of the runes we have now are talents in TBC. It just doesnt work.

People complained about the runes and new quests being a requirement for items lol. Classic plays want to boost to 60 and raid log. Nothing more

Ok?

Moving SoD to TBC still doesnt make sense from a gameplay and logistics standpoint. You would have to completely rework the runes, gear, quests, etc. Also they would have to figure how to break up 10lvls into phases or rework everything including all the raids and release it all at once, which would be a nightmare.

This is why Blizzard needs to announce a Classic/TBC/Wrath on an infinite re-release loop every few years to keep those toxic babies in their corner so everyone doesn’t have to read/deal with their nonsense. The SOD forums got so much better after Anniversary launched holy crap.

There are a lot of people that are done with every other version of WoW except SOD and won’t play anything else until Classic+ or the next season of it, myself included. Classic is an incredibly boring and dry time sink of a game(especially after SOD) and Retail is fried beyond belief.

Until the next iteration of classic, there needs to be a SOD PvP patch that includes skirmish arenas and new rewards which we know wouldn’t take much resources at all. I never understood this raid log andy thing, especially for $15/month.

The content is fun.

That’s not a lot of money.

I’d be down for this though. My dream would be a patch with fated level-up raids and some PvP tweaks to keep us afloat. I enjoyed PvP in earlier phases but really cannot care less currently with some of the jank balance, especially stuff like kill shot etc.

We probably won’t see anything though. SoD is just going to end and then maybe some day we’ll see Classic+.

Looks awesome seeing SOD on support aye bruv :grinning:

If the game moves into The Burning Crusade content, I’m curious what exactly they could add to Outland. While I’m not sure if anything was originally cut, it would be pretty cool to experience it at level 70 with the rune system. They could potentially introduce new dungeons and raids, though I’m not sure what direction they’d take with that.

As for Classic+ , the last developer video mentioned they’re working on some exciting things. While Phase 8 could very well be the final phase of Season of Discovery , I wouldn’t be surprised if they rebrand it to something like Classic+ or Classic Extended something that fits well under the “Classic” banner.

There’s so much rich lore in the old world alone that I can’t imagine them stopping development altogether. Personally, I’ve always loved the Scarlet Enclave and its backstory. I’m a big lore enthusiast, especially when it comes to the Ashbringer. Since Season of Discovery follows an alternate timeline from retail, I’d love to see a version where the Ashbringer is actually cleansed.

I’d love to see Mount Hyjal as it was originally envisioned prior to The Burning Crusade and well before Cataclysm reshaped the zone. Karazhan Tower is another area that was shifted into The Burning Crusade , but to my knowledge, it was originally meant to be the pinnacle raid of Vanilla 2004, featuring Prince Malchezaar and serving as a lead-in to The Burning Crusade . I’d be really interested to experience how that raid was originally intended to play out.

The Dragon Isles were also supposed to be a raid zone in Vanilla. Back then, the Isles were much smaller than what we eventually saw in Dragonflight . In the original lore, they were more tied to the Old Gods than the Dragonflights themselves. Just imagine fighting another Old God in Vanilla on the same level of difficulty as C’Thun… only this time, actually killable. lol

I don’t have a link handy for citation but I do recall Nora responding to the question of SoD moving onto TBC in an interview at some point during Phase 7 and her response was they did not have any plans at the time for moving on to TBC. So I have 0 expectations of them doing so.

My guess is they are already at work (at the very least big picture planning) the next Classic+ experience (since SoD was a Classic+ experience) that won’t release until around BlizzCon 2026 or after. Thus I expect any dev/design work that would hypothetically go into SoD is being invested into that.

I highly doubt they are not doing another Classic+ type of thing given how recently they just hired Game Designers on the Classic Team specifically for creating new content for Classic. It would not make sense to do that for one phase. If that was it they would just borrow a few people from the Retail team briefly and call it a day.

I dont think that we will get any new major content patch for sod, for 2 reasons:

  1. Blizzard still haven’t said anything about it. It is logical, that if we really have new phase in future, blizzard say it for more hype, but if it’s last phase, it’s not good for them to say it directly because many players will leave, so in this case it’s logical for them to just keep silience.
  2. We don’t have any leaks of what new content can be. All previous content, such as kara crypts or scarlet enclave, was leaked long time before its release, now we dont have any leaks of what this new conetent can be (except of dwarf shaman/ undead pala NPCs but it’s not really new content). Of course it can be a surprise but i dont think so because all previous content was leaked loong time before release.

I think maybe they will release undead palas/dwarf shamans as it’s very easy for them (no need to design something new, just new class-race combo is pretty simple to release), and maybe it will prolong life of sod a bit, but i dont think there will be new major content patch.

About TBC, i remember that they have said directly multiple times that there will be no SoD TBC and it’s absoilutly not their direction for SoD.

Balancing TBC arenas as a SoD TBC would be a nightmare. No game dev wants to deal with that.

Anniversary really is boring as hell. I can’t understand how people can prefer it, especially the non-meta classes. My main in SoD is spriest and I was intending on maining spriest in anniversary and thought maybe it’d be viable with debuff removal and it is more viable than it was in vanilla/c19 but you still go oom damn near instantly. I think I can do something like 12-15k damage (depending on MB crits) before I’m oom. Feels terrible in raids and you damn near feel useless. Shoulda played lock but then it’s just shadowbolt spam.

I’d like to see it move into TBC and Wrath content, but keep the level cap the same so that character power continues to grow in a more linear fashion. Maybe follow the original design intent and release Northrend content ahead of Outland.

New runes could be added to fill in talent tree gaps left behind by the removal of 70 and 80 level talents, with overlap being solved via librams and other items which permanently teach an ability-- similar to what has already happened with so many.

Of course, this brings the big question of the key features of each expansion-- for TBC, the blood elves and draenei, and for Wrath, death knights. Does Blizzard edit the content to preserve the shaman/paladin dynamic, or do they let the expansion play out as before? What about DKs-- do they implement it as an entire class, or as a “rune spec” for an existing one?

Zirene and all the other SoD devs got moved over to MoP which doesn’t release until the end of August. It might truly be over for SoD.
