Here’s what everyone missed about the change to TW…
Instead of scaling down, the content scales up to your level.
What does everyone spam endlessly to level? That’s right, TW dungeons. If you’re lvl 40 and want to spam TW to lvl 80…
Under the old system, you would “scale down” to the old TW level cap… say, 35… your lvl 40 gear is fine for 35, as it scales down.
Now, that it scales up to you, say lvl 40, hope you have nice lvl 40 gear gear… 41 gear, 42 gear, 43 gear, 50 gear, 60 gear… etc, etc.
If you’re doing it the old way and just spamming TW to level fast… under the old system that lvl 40 gear would last all the way to 80, because it scales down.
With the new system scaling up… you need a full set of decent gear for every level to not fall off the power scale and become progressively weaker in TW with every level.
Ah, well do we have evidence gear doesn’t scale up like it scales down now? Was confused by the post because I thought it was a future change but how the post was worded it sounds like it already happened
In a nutshell, TW dungeons will be just like any other leveling dungeon after 11.0.5. Level-scaled to us, instead of us being scaled down to their level. Gear won’t be affected, just as it’s not if you were to queue into a dungeon like Ruby Life Pools at 62 or Dawnbreaker at 75.
I’m very much on the side of keeping it as it is. Been avidly in the Timewalking community for ages.
BUT to play the devils advocate- essentially TW will be no different to the normal levelling mode (aka Chromie Timewalking and TWW dungeons. People don’t struggle levelling normally.
So technically not a big deal. Tho all the fun combinations of MoP crafted/TBC+Wrath drops/Heart+Cape+Azerite/Past sets we’ve seen in the past will no longer be applicable as a single set to use between 40-80 (varies by expansion it’s from).
It was nice to have an even playing field - I don’t do high level content anymore due to disability, and I have enjoyed showing up to TW raids and kicking butt on the meters even compared with very geared people.
I hope this doesn’t become another type of content I cannot access due to gatekeeping.
It’s probably correct. There’s a lot of heirlooms. But you don’t need to upgrade them all. There’s a lot of double ups. Just upgrade the ones you actually use. You also have other options for buying the upgrade items. Timewalking tokens for instance.
they have openly said it works like chromie time, everything scales up to you, so your gear will remain static while the mobs power increases to, for example Level 70. If you have jank gear, you will be giving a jank performance. since before it nerfed your gear down so you could literally be level 80 in level 30 gear and it wouldnt matter, now you will be a massively underperforming level 80 if you are wearing level 30 gear.
