What new types of Hero Specs do you want to see in Midnight?

so Hero Specs were presented as an evergreen thing that would be updated and added to as time goes on, and would serve as the primary means of adding new things to existing classes in Expansions.

I think it is reasonable to assume that each class will get at least 1 new Hero Spec in Midnight.

What would you like yours to be? What flavor/fantasy and what type of class design?

I personally would enjoy a hunter spec which is a sniper but not dark. Light ranger? I really enjoy MM and both hero talents though so if they keep them, I’m fine with it. Maybe they could do glyphs or something to give the hero talents more visual options.

Honestly they could drop them and I’d be fine

Just another group of things they’ll never even get close to being balanced

I would also be fine with dropping them. The MM spec is amazing and I would call perfect even without them. Right now I am holding Rapid fire for the lunar storm of sentinel and I don’t particularly like that, if the spec were buffed to be just as strong with no hero talents, I would enjoy it too.

Honestly the most I’d see is whatever the one your spec doesn’t have ends up getting with tweaks. DHs maybe get some made up 3rd one.

Also I think what they mean by “evergreen” is these aren’t going away…not that’ll they be added onto indefinitely. Just something that’ll always be a part of what overall makes up our spec.

Think it would be a cool call back to the creation of DK if they did like Runemaster and Necromancer. Since those three were the first three considered as the hero class and got fused into just DK

Generally speaking, I am hoping the next round of hspecs are specific to one of the classes specs and not a hybrid shared by two. If I were to ask for something more specific, a fel themed demo spec that replaces demonic tyrant with metamorphosis.

A rogue spec where they get to be true swashbucklers with a sword and shield.

Honestly i don’t want them to add new hero talents until they can make it so every class can use both of the ones that are already there. Too many classes only have one useable hearo talent tree and i don’t see a reason to add more if they can’t balance just two of them.

If Blizzard doesn’t want to entertain the idea of a fourth spec I would love a hero talent giving Holy Priest a more offensive playstyle tied to healing specifically utilizing holy/radiant magic.

  • A passive that converts SW:D and SW:P to a Holy Word and Radiant Word version respectively
  • Change Smite into a projectile radiant spell that does more damage and increases your healing effectiveness for a certain duration
  • Offensive spells affecting the cooldown reduction of Serenity and Sanctify
  • Lightspawn in priory has this holy beam attack that would be nice to have
  • Sanctify having its own Acid Rain AoE bonus

All I’ve brainstormed atm but could probably think of more.

This so much, the identity gets screwed in the process I feel.

Feral-balance nightmare themed spec about compounding and empowering dots into a mega nightmare corruption, would give us some of those cool red spell affects and a could add a nightmare catform and boomy form.

Guardain-resto tree focused on giving guardians their healer utility back through AtwF and DoC buffs and resto druid some small but continous DRs in exchange for doing like no damage. Lets us cast regrowth in bear, gives overheal frenzied regen and rejuv an absorb that kinda thing.

I think it’s more likely they’ll just expand on the current Hero Talents as opposed to adding more.

Did they mention that specifically? (genuine question, I was away for the pre-TWW times).

I ask this because it’s even possible to add new hero tree branches in a sustainable way? Would they always have to add multiple, and then imagining that across all classes, and that every hero tree need to work for 2 specs.

Unless… they settle in adding just one hero branch for every class and make it work for every spec.

Also considering that any new classes will need a set of hero branches.

Eww, I’m gonna be stuck with Archon and Oracle until the end of days?

I think I’m gonna be sick.

I want a Warlock Hero Spec about Succubi, a Hunter Hero Spec about traps and a Warrior Blademaster Hero Spec.

People who argue for the stagnation of the game because “muh balance” should not be taken seriously.

Balance issues are also overstated about 90% of the time, so there’s that too.

Putting balance above gameplay is basically putting the cart in front of the horse, completely backwards thinking for a game, since games live and die depending on their gameplay.

Do you hear about games that are perfectly balanced? Or do you hear about games that have great gameplay? I think the question answers itself.

People always wanna talk about balance and the good things about it, but never about what you would give up in order to achieve this borderline impossible standard of perfect balance where you can do just as well on any spec. Which would lead to the complete and utter removal of what makes a game actually fun, because it turns out that in order to have a fun gameplay you need mechanics, different specs have different mechanics which must mean that there are discrepancies in performance between the spec, you can try to get them as close as possible, and in terms of raw numbers it is possible, but ultimately if a spec has a 1 min cd rotation and the boss does better with specs that have a 1.5 min cd, there really isn’t much you can do about it other than changing the mechanics.

So perfect balance logical conclusion is everything is equally boring because you stripped everything down to have as few variables as possible

Aside that.

Personally I would like a few new specs and the expansion of the current hero trees more than new ones

NEW CLASS: TINKER
SPECS:

  • Medic (throws bombs, gadgets and fires with it’s gun to heal)
  • Mecha (uses a giant robot to tank)
  • Battle Engineer (2H weapons + melee DPS using the power of science)
  • Races allowed: gnomes, goblins, mechagnomes, vulpera

If they do add more hero specs to the classes, I hope mage gets something racially agnostic… and maybe something a little more inspiring than “splinters, the spec”. for arcane/frost. I like Frostfire (even if, to me, it feels neutered for fire now) but I’m not interested in a Kael’thas subspec and I’m lukewarm at-best for the stupidly named Spellsplinger one, so that leaves me in an awkward spot with arcane where visually I wish I could go without either of them.
