i’m a melee main and i am curious to know what melee specs will be safe to pick up when mop drops. i know windwalker is beyond busted so i’ll be having fun with that; i mostly play survival in retail and besides that i also enjoy ret and enh and arms is one of my guilty pleasures
Unless you’re part of top 5 realm or top 50 world guilds, you should play what you think is fun and maybe something that fits your raid comp. But don’t go off of rankings. This is a guaranteed way to kill your own fun. Imagine playing S-tier warlock, but secretly hating it and wishing you could be a Ret, despite it being C-tier.
THe sweaty guilds/people who race on release are already on private MOP servers figuring it out themselves.
Something i learned in tbc was every expansion is launched on its final patch note. That’s why arcane mage wasnt bis this time around cataclysm and fire dominated.
Blood dks being stronger than originally etc. If your that curious you can google the websites. they have logs like warcraft logs but arent nearly as nice or detailed as WCL.
GL on your search, and be prepared for many contradicting opinions :). Like dual wield UH for wotlk was memed on but a player known as whitewolf( you can youtube his videos) proved it mathematically.
Private servers are coded diff as well sometimes its nto always accurate but as a person who killed rag 3 times on release day. Most is generally the same
I played MoP as a feral druid main and alt’d as almost every single class when it was around. In my experience, all the specs and classes are completely viable and extremely fun. If someone declines you based off spec, they aren’t going to be a good raid leader anyway.
To answer your question though… Feral druid.
Dks and ret pals fall off in mop if I remember. We’ll have to see but I’m not super optimist about playing dk in mop.
From what I’ve read/recall, nearly all specs have some sort of viability but casters take over in the later phases. Shaman/warrior dps will likely be sought after for the big raid damage cooldowns they bring in the Skull banner and Stormlash totem. Also believe WW has amazing burst but lackluster sustained damage (could be wrong). At the end of the day you should be fine with whatever choice you make as long as it fits your team.
Play what you want and not the flavour of the month.
i’m not trying to be a fotm reroller, i never played mop when it was current so my thinking is:
- what spec(s) are enjoyable at every stage of the game from levelling to endgame? ive heard criticisms about mop regarding classes/specs having a kajillion buttons which i’m sure can be resolved through the use of macros.
- what will deliver consistent results? is x spec propped up by a tier set? will i need to rely on degenerate gameplay strategies to perform well? (ie feral druids needing crowd pummelers to be decent in raid)
I can only speak from the perspective of warrior, fury and arms are both good. Arms is good the entire time, fury starts off behind but catches up in late throne of thunder/early siege (just needs stats) and can even pull ahead at the end of siege.
For degenerate gameplay, that depends on you and your raid team. There is a fairly unknown (read, pserver tested) strategy where you stack 5 or 6 warriors to have them all rotate vigilance on the tank (it’s a 30% dr for 12 seconds on a 2 minute cooldown bunch of warriors for uptime and then raid cds/personal tank cds the rest of the time), only using 1 tank, so that the tank can get absurd amounts of vengeance and basically do the same amount of dps as your entire raid combined. That’s pretty much the limit for warrior degeneracy though. You macro vigilance to your main tank and press it when told. And that only applies in super sweat guilds.
It seems like Arms and UH DK are pretty good in the first phase with sub being decent aswell hope that helps
which ever melee perform well with 5.4.8 talent/class changes but don’t need last patch gear
I absolutely loved playing enhance in MoP back in the day, it’s a really fun rotation and performs well. I’m quite tempted to not go holy pally as my main in classic for the first time since 2019 because of how fun it was.
All specs are pretty good in MOP but in terms of the kind when it comes to Melee It’s actually Enhancement if I recall correctly. They were pumping pretty good. That could only be last patch though…
DK Is always good. Rogue is good. Warrior is good. I can’t think of a bad spec in general for MOP.
