I see Drustvar highly rated in terms of zone and questing - why did you like it and can it be replicated? Should it be?
It was “unsettling”. Similar to one of those films where the main character rides into town and everyone is just a little bit off. The stories were quite good. A bunch of small stories about different people that all sort of flowed into each other. Subtle things like lighting and music were also woven in in a way that you barely perceived it, yet they added a lot to the overall vibe.
The flash back of the wedding ceremony with its own unique music is the best part of the zone
Thats my only contribution to this
Has a nice Witcher/Bloodborne vibe to it, the autumnal forest setting goes well with the murder mystery meets cultist horror story that builds in suspense from oblivious arrival to shocking horrific finale.
Duskwood is “spooky” because of the mist and the fog and the perpetual night, but if you remove all those things it’s basically just a forest with a few Worgen and some ghosts/zombies…
much of the horror of Drustvar happens in broad daylight and builds as you go through the zone.
And it was a bunch of horror movie plots in a row so it made the experience very engaging.
Evil witch curses a whole town. Evil little girl murders all the town folk. Angry mob attacking an innocent person based on superstition. Ancient evil forces retaking power. An evil mother and her thirst for power that drives her to make a deal with the devil…and that’s leaving out a good number of the side quests.
Looking at Drustvar and what makes it work, I’ve suddenly come to the realization that WoW up till this point hasn’t really done suspense and story twists all that well…
Except maybe MoP, some of the Sha stuff just had a lot of atmosphere and a few unexpected developments.
Everything about it was just awesome, from the atmosphere to the quality and pacing of the story, everything about Drustvar is simply amazing. And then there’s Abby Lewis, the creepiest little girl you will ever meet
Kinda like a classic Twilight Zone episode.
BFA was weird when it came to zones for me. The most jarring thing was the lack of a story tying them together.
Drustvar is a pretty cool zone to do with some characters, but a lot of the story fell flat when questing there as a warlock since most of their enemies felt like small fry. The zone itself looked amazing though.
It was just plain ODD. In the best way. SO unlike most bland WOW zones.
Duskwood was phenomenal before Cataclysm when they revamped everything. Drustvar was really well done with just the right mix of spooky and campy. I liked the main Stormsong line as well but the side quests there fell flat. They weren’t bad they just didn’t fit in with the overall vibe of the rest of the zone.
I think what made it so good was that it didn’t feel like a normal leveling zone in a WoW.
It’s hard to pin down, which I think is good because it didn’t remind me of past expansions or zones so it felt, and was, refreshing.
I liked the overall vibe of Drustvar but I prefer dark, creepy areas like Duskwood and/or Plaguelands.
The horde bfa starting area was too familiar to me. I didn’t want to level in yet another jungle.
Drustvar is certainly my favorite of the BFA zones for all of the reasons mentioned.
Even the cute little panda bears around the zone have a little bit of dangerous darkness to them …err…maybe that only exists in my own alternate game story line…
Story/stories … plus art, and the feeling of being with a lot of players doing the same thing no matter when anyone started. (There and the Zethrak/Vol’dun area) Just felt like more teamwork by osmosis.
I really like that female character that you follow around and help. I don’t remember her name. I’m talking about the one that is accused of being a witch. The voice actor is great and so are the supporting characters. Makes me glad to play Alliance.
My personal opinion but i preferred the east side of drustvar more than the west. After u go to the town in the middle center in the ice mountains it gets kinda boring except for the druids of the thorn tbh.
Lucille Waycrest, They did a great job with all of the main characters from the Inquisitors to the crazy alchemist.
Come Winston there are Witches to kill!
Here’s the thing with Drustvar, Drustrvar gave off an ominous feeling, a sort of daunting one too. Like Herne said, it gave off a witcher/bloodborne vibe. Overall, a dark fantasy vibe. Which I love in games, any zones like that I automatically love.
It’s story is a lot more interesting than most modern WoW zones.
At least it is on blueside.
