What makes a great guild?

Here’s a topic I’m sure will spark some debate, but…oh well.

It’s season 2 of Dragonflight and, yes, guilds have changed a lot over the years. Some might even say they’re pointless. But I’m curious. In your opinion, what is the difference between a great guild and a terrible one?

Is that a rhetorical question?

A great guild is
A guild that suit your needs
A guild with like-minded individuals
A guild with not too many cliques

A terrible guild can be many things
Insane drama that won’t stop (some drama can be fun, too much can turn toxic)
Bad management (you can’t get anywhere if people at the top are not doing anything)
Too many cliques (people that won’t talk to each other or only do activities in small groups)

Not a lot of cliques/gossip. People talking in guild chat about random stuff. A general positive vibe.

Strong Guild:

A strong and active GM with a solid set of officers with an understanding that the guild comes before individuals and their feelings. A solid core of players. A good set of rules. A clear and real direction of where the guild is headed and what they want to do. Good communication.

Trash Guild:

Anything less.

Depends on what their goals are, but very generically speaking:

A guild that organizes and follows through with plans, whether that be for raiding, rated pvp, rp events, or a dungeon crawl.

Has strong leadership (preferably with the GM and at least a couple of officers) that effectively plan events and mediate between guild members as necessary.

Has friendly and reliable members - those that aren’t jerks for the sake of it, show up when they say they will, and do the necessary chores needed for their activities (farming up mats for their raid buffs, etc).

Just a place with like minded individuals you get along with. Same as it’s always been.

A guild composed of people that have the same goals and organize to efficiently meet them.

That can mean hard core mythic progression or it could be casual normal raid social night.

Like most of the social problems with this game, there’s only issues when you mix people with different goals, standards, and levels of commitment.

Basically don’t go into a casual guild in BiS gear and demand they start shaping up to do mythic, and don’t go into mythic guild with half your enchantments and demand to be carried.

To me, a good guild is one that doesn’t turn the game into a second job.

My current guild is the best though, because I’m the only one in it. :sunglasses:

Havent had the time or schedule for a guild since wrath, earlie cata. Great is debatable tho, I thought it was great to have a resto shammy who ran ele cause I was invincible as a dk.

People who don’t get upset over silly stuff and aren’t obsessed with pixels. And are more interested in cultivating newbies and teaching them the organizational basics than lording over them. Not to carry or do for them.

A good guild pumps out other good officers and guild leaders. And even guilds as it grows and splits through mitosis. As sub guilds become feeder guilds. Then specialist guild colonies that feed the whole super organism of the greater wow community.

What makes a great guild for me? I would have to say size is a big factor to me, i dont want to be apart of a massive guild where they us a addon to invite everyone, smaller to mid size guild to me are better for making connections and friends the bigger the guild the more issues that come with,
I think another thing that makes a great guild is everyone being on the same page and have the same goals,
Another thing that is a must is having a clean rosters if someone hasnt been on in 2-4weeks just remove them no point an keeping them here unless they said something before to why they arent around, this also goes for removing the none active people if some joins your guild doesnt speak, play with people, or only logs on to raid remove them they’re health for the guild people like are basically pugs replace them with actual people
And lastly leadership i could go on an on about this but good leadership is a must everyones has different opinions on what is considered good leadership so i wont really go into much detail, but if youre on of thoses leaders that doesnt try to communicate with you fellow guildmates you shouldnt be a leader and everyone should automatically leave

As a GM myself I’d pitch in, but yeah they’ve already covered it… a house in order is a stable house, a house divided against itself cannot stand in the immortal words of Lincoln and the bible.

A great guild requires unity, discipline, and a sense of community or fellowship.

“Greater than the sum of its parts”. What you put into a guild is what you’ll get tenfold, as the saying goes: “You are who you associate with.”

Wow, some very good advice. The reason I posted this is because I started a guild on Sargeras called Natures Balance. I’ll be taking your advice into consideration for sure. Very much appreciated everyone, thank you.

Be sure to come up with more as I’ll be checking in daily.
