Warlocks now have battle revive. A closet. Gateways and stuff. Isn’t that strong and desirable?
But mages have some 5% buff, bloodlust, literally permaslows and teleports isn’t that strong and op?
Hunters have purges, bloodlusts, incredible mass mobility to help the party handle mechanics.
Balance druids bring battle revive, tons of slows and roots and can even swap in shadowlands to their special healing off-spec and pump out insane heals.
Unholy and Frost DKs have antimagic zone which is insanely strong, pulls and battle revive… which is pretty staggeringly good utility I’d say.
Mistweaver monks have uhhh… something? +5% damage buff that you pray no one else in raid is a monk or rip.
Enhancement and elemental shamans… ok I’m going to stop talking. Idk what they have for special utility honestly at this point. Ignoring that mages bring their own buff utility, permaslows and bloodlust… …
I feel like WoW’s classes are too messy and hard to tell what is actually even good anymore.
Like in FFXIV one can easily point and be like “Oh! Oh! This class provides lots of utility! This other one is NOT utility based and has lots of personal utility.”
This is hard to tell who is a preferred DPS and who is undesired.
What DPS specs do I at least want to avoid?
Atm I have:
-Monk
-Ret Paladin
-Enhancement and Elemental Shamans
-Demon hunters
Different content makes each dps desirable in a different way.
Warlocks always had those things (Or at least, Soulstone being useable as a battle-rez was a change a few expansions ago). They actually lost utility when they put the Curse of Elements debuff as something that only Demon Hunters could provide.
There are a bunch of things worth considering:
-
Does the class offer one of the elusive raid buffs? If so, what other classes offer said buff? You ideally want a DH, a Warrior, a Priest, a Monk, and a Mage in all raid groups, for instance.
-
Does the class do good damage? What damage profile does that class excel at? What damage profile does the boss in question have?
-
Does the class offer some form of utility? There are some bosses that are blatantly impossible or near-impossible without a certain type of utility; for instance, you probably won’t be killing Mythic Carapace of N’zoth without a Warlock. Sometimes a raid cooldown like AMZ or Darkness is really important, too. How about Stampeding Roar, Wind Rush Totem, the rez totem shenanigans, Ankh, Tremor Totem, Mind Control, and the like? How about your typical “random boss in this raid that becomes ten times easier if you have a Blood DK to specifically use Gorefiend’s Grasp?”
-
Does the class offer an Immunity? Does the boss require large amounts of immunity stacking to kill reasonably easily?
raid or mythic +? bear in mind both require a very different approach.
They’ve had that for a while.
What exactly are you asking for? A prune.
Because if so… NO.
You can look on various sites who have rather detailed DPS rankings.
But, really… play what you enjoy.
Complexity is a feature, not a fault.
