Ok, ima go Charlie Day Pepe Siliva for a minute.
Now we know he is obviously the leader of the burning legion and has used avatars totally infused with Fel, but Sargeras’s appearance is more akin to a primal fire. Now we know he’s a titan, all be it a dark one, but does that mean he’s 100% Fel infused? We know Aggramar when corrupted shares this primal fiery look, But it appears to not be Fel magic.
Now Warlocks destruction tree fits well with this kind of fire, but that then begs the question, dose “Chaos magic” come in different flavors? Or is the lack of “Order magic” bring out only primordial forms of power that remain?
It would make sense for both Aggramar and Sargeras, that their corrupted forms to be husks made of raging fire. But also inform us that Fel magic can be used by Sargeras kinda like LF draenei But its not his primary choice. This is further evident by the giant sword in Silithis.
Gorshalach is not a Green Fel weapon. in fact, by its appearance and effects it seems to almost be its own school of magic unrelated to either Fel or primal Fire, it seems to be more akin to a death knight weapon, and very reminiscent of Anima in Revendreath.
Now this is just speculation I came up with while running Antorus for the 100th time and figured I would share.
I think the most likely answer is something you touched on - in the same way that “Order” magic isn’t actually necessarily purple-and-blue arcane, “Chaos” magic must come in different forms than just fel.
That said, I’m honestly becoming increasingly convinced that the cosmology chart was a mistake.
I think it’s fine, mostly. People just need to accept that very few entities are “purely” their cosmic force of origin. Arcane and Fel both use elemental fire all the time. One of the death realms used decay a bunch (Maldraxxus) while another used life (Ardenweald).
Only really Naaru and pure void creatures are purely one cosmic force and even they have exceptions.
This is just personal opinion, but I like to think that each individual Titan has a bit of cosmic connection to a certain cosmic force so that they can equally represent it within Order.
The most notable one is obviously Eonar and Life.
Eonar - Life
Norgannon - Order
Golganneth - Chaos
Khaz’goroth - Void
Sargeras - Light
Replaced by Aggramar
Argus - Death
So there’s a few reasons for this which I’ll quickly touch upon.
Eonar has a connection with Elune and the force of Life, she was given her own planet to hide/heal on in Legion.
Khaz’goroth empowered Deathwing, which is why the Black Dragons were so susceptible to the Void.
Sargeras saw a world titan turned to Void, and his affiliation to the Light caused him to more easily go mad, or be considered a fanatic.
(Aman’Thul is more connected to Time, which I believe was to be the 7th mystery cosmic force, but that’s another First Ones’ topic.)
When you look at the OG cosmic chart, you can see that Fire, this brimstone “primal fiery look” is actually in between Light and the Fel.
(Which is similar to Odyn and his Valkyrie’s connection between the Light and the Fel of Legion.)
I think that this Primal Fire as you put it is more of a mixture of Light influenced Fel Magic. (With the Green Fire being more Death/Fel Magic)
Yes! I too Hc that Sargeras is Light aligned and that is manifested in him being made of fire. I had originally thought that the whisper “the Light has made a pact with the enemy of all things.” was reference to Sargeras. Light = Fire.
You have the right idea but I don’t think that’s it. The Black dragonflight are easily corrupted by the Old Gods because the Old Gods are (or rather were) parasitically ingrained to the planet, and the Black dragons are the stewards of the physical world and the earth, having a deep connection to it. That’s it.
This is a callback to a lot of old high fantasy tropes about eldritch horrors being buried beneath the Earth, going all the way back to Tolkien’s mythos, with the balrog of Khazad-dûm being dug out by the dwarves.
Furthermore, this connection to the void would be contradictory, as was the Hammer of Khaz’goroth while wielded by Huln Highmountain that cleansed Ebyssian of the corruption that he was suffering from while he was still in his egg.
Oh, that may have been my mistake. I thought the Hammer had importance to Deathwing, and through him, the Old Gods, because it empowered their Earth/Void powers.
I always thought Golganneth’s connection was to the Ocean and Skies/Thunder, which felt like a connection to disorder and chaos.
While Khaz’goroth’s connection was to the Earth and embedded in the lands, which felt like a connection to void and that deep rooted, stone and underground feel the Old Gods give off.
Edit:
Going back to the Cosmic Chart, you can see Earth is a side connection between Void and Order.
That quote always stuck with me, especially in Shadowlands, cause I always thought that Time was going to be introduced as a Cosmic Force… which lead to Aman’thul and the Infinites. (This was before DF)
Now it makes me wonder if it’s not directed at Tyr and Murozond… but again, those are probably topics for a different thread.
Even though he hasn’t been relevant in a while but I think that quote could also be about Lothraxxion. I know people think he’s the Dreadlord that betrayed and switched factions but I don’t think so. I think Xera was prideful and they used that for Lothraxxion to infiltrate the Army of the Light.
