When the game actually took effort. Hence, why Classic WoW is so popular and less people complain about it. You can’t have fun in retail when epics are as common as white items and you’re basically handed things on a silver platter for just logging on for a few minutes every day.
To me what made it great was the ability to solo to max level. Coming from Everquest where content at the time was soloable up to level 12 or 13.
Even though it’s the same now it’s become 2 edged to me.
On one hand, if I want to avoid “Pat Toxic Player #32456”, I can and play the game in peace.
On the other hand, if I want to see more of the game, I miss out.
With my current schedule, I’m fine with the soloable content. To me that is still what makes it great to play. Well that and being labeled a Filthy Casual from time to time is quite entertaining.
It’s nothing in comparison to how much the retail forums complain about the game. The people making requests are primarily those from outside the community, and those within the community are otherwise in agreement with others within the community. Heck, I just looked at it right now and one of the request was literally from a player pretending to be from Classic even though we can see their retail profile.
I am serious, and Blizzard has shown the numbers to prove it. Classic increased subs significantly.
The game have always been perfect, and always will be. The problem with wow today is the lack of community, back then even in wrath many people were not established.
Back then nobody cared if they saw a woman, or someone they could benefit from, you met doing a quest, and you formed groups. which then led us into making guilds.
Now a days, you have to be a woman, rich, or someone that can benefit others to get help, or even an invite, or other things. You don’t meet people that want to interact.
Its become more based on progress, and how fast, and how high you can go, and then brag, over just playing.
A bunch of folks will say that WoW was only great when the elitists ruled everything, when the best content was only available for the lucky few. When tools like LFG and LFR came about to free us from their gatekeeping, that’s when the complaining started.
Of course it did, it was the “new thing”. Interest plummeted immediately though, like anyone could have told you it would. Classic is a dead end nostalgia trip and it was always going to be.
Yes, and after playing Classic for quite a while I realized it’s only for people who know how to spam 1 button no matter how committed they are. It’s fun, don’t get me wrong, but the entirety of it’s existence is a meme.
