What macs play wow on decent settings?

i have a macbook 2016 and it runs crap unless its low
does anyone play on a mac on medium to high at a stable framerate all the time?

more out of curiosity than anything

FWIW… this is sort of an atypical setup, I suppose, but I’ve got most of the settings in the game at high or ultra running at 3840x2160 with good framerates. I have v-sync turned on, because my monitor won’t do more than 60 fps anyway — but it never drops below that, even in raids.

It’s a 2019 Mac Pro (16-core Xeon 3.2GHz, 192GB memory, and the Radeon Pro W5700X GPU. (I do video editing for work — I did not specifically buy this computer to play WoW).

Yes, the latest iMac 2020 with i7 and Radeon 5700 runs WoW flawlessly. I am at graphics settings 7 and the fans dont even spin up.

My late 2020 iMac runs wow seemlessly on level 7.

do you play at the full 5k? I have a 2019 27" imac and I’ve been struggling with the settings. I don’t like the way the game looks if I check the box “open in low resolution.” I’m trying to play with the render scale down to 50% but sometimes the frame rate drops a bit.

My 2019 Mac Pro plays fairly well at graphics settings 10 with a Radeon 5700XT. The only bottleneck appears to be the graphics card, which I plan to rectify once Apple releases drivers for Big Navi. My monitor resolution is 2560 by 1600.

It’s a 2020 iMac with the 16g radion 5700, I set my res to 2024 x 1200 ish

What resolution are you playing? I’ve got a 2020 iMac and I get fan noise unless I run about 3000 dpi.

I use tg pro for my fan control so when I game I crank it up to prevent throttling, with that said I can run in 5k but I see no point to it, needlessly uses resources. Oh my native rez is 5k I just tell wow to run at less

Did you know that in the System Preferences > Displays you can option-click on the “Scaled” radio button and macOS will then display all the resolutions your display supports?

You can try playing around with that, but honestly I just did and there’s an add interaction between System Display Resolution and WoW’s Screen Resolution settings.

Here’s a very short video of the $1250 (USD) M1 MacBook Air running Wow at the default resolution, on 10, getting 60 FPS: M1 Macbook Air, WoW 9.0.2, Max Graphic Settings.

I have 8 core m1 , 16gb ram. It heats up inZandalar. This is an air at 5

I have an M1 Mini. Are you sure that was the default resolution? My default resolution on the M1 Mini was a lot higher. That video showed 1440x900.

But in general it’s true that to get 40-60 FPS you have to either lower some game settings or use a lower resolution than the maximum supported. If you want absolute perfection, don’t get an M1 Mac. But if you want something with a long battery life and decent performance, an M1 laptop is an excellent choice.

Wow runs pretty well on my 2019 iMac i9 580x at 1440p on setting 4 or 5 (I think it’s on 4). 60 FPS w/ vsync.

I played shadowlands beta on it while RMA’ing an EVGA 2080 xc (twice ) from my PC.

Looks amazing at 5k (2880p) but it was more enjoyable with the extra frames at 1440p

In a few years hopefully Apple will offer an ARM Mac Pro for enthusiasts or prosumers with a discrete (& upgradable) GPU.
