What looks better, a 2handed mace or sword?

For retribution,

Is Paladins iconic look with a 2handed mace or 2handed sword?

I mean there’s people like arthas and Uther having maces as weapons

But then you have Tirion and Liadrian with swords

So… Which is it?

Depends really, back in WC3 days all Paladins used giant Hammers.

If we’re using a DnD reference then most Paladins/Clerics are also portrayed as using hammers as they were the most effective for smashing the bones of the undead.

I’d say it depends on the Aesthetic you’re going for.

I’m personally partial to Swords > Hammers > Axes.

But I also think managing to pull off a Polearm well as a paladin looks great too.

I just personally prefer Swords. They look better most of the time, and since Paladins are hardly specifically anti-undead at this point, the bone-smashing explanation for maces is kinda moot.

I do think the Holy Paladin 2H Artifact Mace from Legion looks real nice with your typical bright yellow light-infused Paladin mogs though. Including Lightforged Draenei’s heritage armor.

Depends on the race. This what I think:

2h sword: humans, elves, undead, worgen
2h mace: dwarves, gnomes, Draenei
2h axes: orcs, tauren, goblins
Polearms: trolls, pandas

The Blood Elf Paladin I made in BC still has the Blood-Soaked Ranseur from the Level 20 Paladin questline. That thing has been banked for about 14 years now.

Maybe I should unlock the Blood Elf Heritage Armor to go with it.

Polearms are (A: seriously awesome and (B: seriously underrepresented in the fantasy genre.

I approve of more polearms.

As a Blood Elf, I prefer swords. I can see the argument for maces though for most other (especially Alliance) races. I’d love to pull off a polearm but the Blood Elf stance just looks so derpy with those, not sure if other races are any better.

I would personally add goblins and gnomes to polearms. They’re so short they need the extra reach!

Otherwise, I agree with your list.

For my Blood Elf Paladin, I generally stuck to swords and polearms. I loved the old polearm animations on the Female Blood Elf.

For my Tauren Paladin, maces all the way. If I’m going to bludgeon evil, I’m going to do it with a big stupid over-sized mace.

I’d probably use a sword or mace on a Human or Dwarf.

Maces stand out more to me, but I think that’s probably my dwarven bias. If someone’s swinging a weapon in my face, I’m going to remember a huge block of stone over the blur of a blade.

I used to have the corrupted Ashbringer on my pally alt in retail, but after playing a pally for a bit in Classic with a mace, I switched from the sword back to the more traditional weapon of a mace, because it seemed more appropriate. The mace options aren’t as appealing transmog-wise as the sword was, but I’m sticking with it for the time being because it feels “right.”

/moo :cow:

It depends. I tend to love the look of swords, but some 2-h maces are really nice looking with the right transmog.

Oh man… now I want to see a Tauren-specific 2-handed mace that’s just a Giant carved totem like they had from Warcraft 3, but carved with Holy Light symbols and glowing with light.
