What level was Edwin Van Cleef on Nov. 7, 2004?

I know it was much higher than he is now. Did a text search for “Cleef” on the patch notes on wowwiki and didn’t get any hits for all 12 major patches.

WoW has always had scaling as far as I know, so its whatever it was at the time of your level. At least up to a certain cap. Like you won’t find level 70 mobs in elwynn forest for example

It has not.

Edwin was either 20 or 21, he was the only mob that showed up as a skull if you were in there at level 10.

Just FYI. Scaling was introduced in Legion. At that time, it was only for Legion zones. It was gradually expanded until they introduced Chromie Time and made all zones scale (with a cap).

Reason why he didn’t show up was because there weren’t any real changes to Deadmines until it was remade for cata, with his daughter as the new end-boss on Heroic but not on Normal. Then when scaling was introduced, he no longer existed.

ah ok. I thought it was just part of WoW (the scaling) and why people thought it was easy back then compared to everything else. Guess the scaling stuff is newer.

In that case, I don’t imagine they changed his level till scaling got introduced like brakkarion said.

Edwin only exists in vanilla. The only way you can see him today is in Classic, which does not have scaling.

He was higher at launch, pretty sure closer to 24.

I think he would have been 20 or 21. I think some of the earlier bosses were 18 or 19 and he was higher.

That lists him as 20. Unless my memory is making things up I remember him being absurdly higher than the rest of the dungeon when the game first launched. Someone’s got a screenshot from 2004…sadly I lost mine in the great hard drive crash of '08.

Ok there’s a .tga file from June 27 2005, he was 21 by then.
