title, skinning doesn’t require a level, only enough $$ to get the knife and training. I forgot what level you can learn LW though. anyone have an idea?
Level 1. The very early starting areas (e.g. Deathknell) don’t have trainers, but you can learn at Level 1.
Skinning does have a level requirement.
All professions require level 5
five
(tenfive)
Ristra is correct. That’s why many bank alts are level 5 so they can disenchant items. My question is will they have the level requirements for DEing items? Or will we be able to DE any level item as long as we have enchanting no matter my skill level.
Isn’t in classic. Can also enchant at any level. Twinks are built upon using max level enchants in lower levels. They’ve no good reason to change these things. At best, disabling low level disenchant restricts hackers that shard out people’s characters, but they can already restore you anyway. A restriction wouldn’t protect your gold, bags, or bank slots anyway.
Ohh was that added later? I couldn’t remember when it was added. Small things like that run together after all these years.
All of these things were introduced with burning crusade. This is also when they converted hit/crit to rating, because percentages scaled far better than they should have.
edit: Looked it up, apparently you were able to disenchant everything as a beginner enchanter up until TBC.
Original Post: Disenchanting (iirc) requires a higher and higher skill level as the items go up in required level to equip.
If you wanted a disenchanting bank alt you would eventually have to get them to level 35 in order for them to gain the ability to learn artisan enchanting.
Are we sure guys?
I think level 5 for professions was in Vanilla but still at level 5 you could d/e level 60 gear.
On the test server and betas, Primary Professions had a level requirement of level 5.
Looking at WoWHead, gathering professions could be learned at level 1, but crafting professions required level 5. Are you sure?
That being said, I’m confident that the first profession trainers didn’t show up until the second hub (~level 5), so the distinction is more trivia than anything else.

I looked all through that link and it doesn’t say what level professions are obtainable. Not for the initial training.
Gathering is 0, production is 5. This is why bank alts are 5; they want to disenchant, and as I’ve said before, you can disenchant any item in the game at 1 skill. Classic has no level requirements on enchants nor disenchanting. Level 1 players can have crusader, or whatever else they want. One trick is actually to put 30 SP on a skinning knife. This is what classified as a heirloom in classic. It’s better than most items your caster would use pre 60, and can be resold after you no longer need it. If it’s not green or higher, it won’t bind, even if you put a top level enchant on it.
I can’t find any source for your claim but you could be correct.
What will complicate things is skinnable MOBs don’t allow skinning until the MOB is level 5+
Ok yeah this looks right.
From what I remember Artisan 225+ for gathering professions was 30 while the crafting were 35.
This isn’t true til ~lvl 12. Because all the starter beasts aren’t skinnable so if it was lvlx5 you wouldn’t be able to skin at all since the first skinnable mobs are lvl 5.
Technically you could level skinning just off critters like deer, sheep, and cows but that’d be painful.
Classic sites/guides are listing these formulas:
1-99: [skill / 10 + 10]
100+: [skill / 5]
I’ve never bothered to look them up before, but they make sense to me as I’ve never noticed a requirement until 10+.
Yeah you’re right.
