Looking for a decent laptop within this price range or lower

I don’t know what Intel Iris Xe Graphics are, but I’m assuming it’s onboard since it’s a Razer laptop for $1000. The MSI will perform much better.

If something happened to my laptop and I had to buy one tomorrow I’d get this one - https://www.microcenter.com/product/639446/acer-predator-helios-300-ph315-54-748y-156-gaming-laptop-computer-black

If you have a Micro Center nearby I would shop there too.

don’t get the razer. intel Xe is integrated and the 3050ti will crap all over it. the lpddr4x ram is soldered into the motherboard so you can’t upgrade to 16 gb, while you can upgrade the MSI one

since this is the 3rd or so thread you created, you should notice the trend of laptops that cost more is better the one that cost less. the MSI on is actually priced at 1200 MSRP, but discounted by best buy

here’s another suggestion:

it’s an i5, but it’s the 12th gen i5

Get yourself on Amazon or Walmart or check out Costco if you have a membership.

Last summer/fall I bought a Lenovo Legion 5 pro with a Ryzen 5800HS, RTX 3070 (full 130w) l, 32GB ram, 1TB SSD and a 16" 1440p 165hz IPS screen, with a Mux switch on sale for $1,100 on walmart’s website and picked it up at my local store. Hold out for sales. Most of the stuff Best Buy sells is I would label as overpriced pieces of crap. Anything they sell that’s actually good you wind up having to Overpay for.

As I said shop around and hold out for sales they change all the time almost daily. Lenovo Legion seres have excellent thermals some of the best on the market and come with RTX 3000 series. You can also customize a laptop on their website.

If the legion Series Laptops are not for you and you want more of a better-known brand look into anything from Asus or MSI. The tough series or Rog Series Laptops are great! MSI makes really good laptops to and if you get them on sale you get them for close to the same price as bestbuys POS laptops. Expect to spend around 1,200 for anything good that you won’t have to replace in the next year

If you know someone with a Costco membership they have a deal with MSI and sell a lot of their gaming laptops at about 25-30% less than what you would pay for them elsewhere. They also sell the legion laptops.

Another highly important thing to consider is make sure whatever laptop you wind up getting has a Mux switch. This lets you disable the igpu and use the graphics card as a dedicated graphics card similar to what you would do on a desktop. Gaming laptops are pricey so it’s important you get one that’s going to last you a while.

I am currently using a small desktop build with a 5600 gbut might choose to get a laptop for wow and some small graphic design that might be a bit more portable just hate the heat related issues with gaming laptops.

Any suggestions or things I should wait for?

Thanks.

Both Ryzen and Intel are getting ready to drop new desktop processors in fall and mobile processors always follow.

If you can wait tell closer to the end of the year I would because these processors are complete redesigns. So I would wait till 13th Gen and 7000 series mobile processors are out and in laptops.

Also at the end of this summer or RTX 4000 series drops. So not only will this new generation of laptops have a new generation of processors it will also have a new generation of mobile graphics cards.

This is another strong reason to wait until the end of this year to even start looking at laptops
