Every pvp healing streamer I watch they always have keybinds to target their party members and it just seems weird to me. I can never find a good keybind that I don’t already use for other spells. Why don’t people just use mouse overs?
Target macros dude
Target arena 123
I don’t play healers because I enjoy an actual challenge but id imagine they can Target their allies or write their name into a Target macro
It seems that they don’t, going over Cdew’s macros he doesn’t have one for targeting allies.
The secret is to get a razer naga trinity.
Use button 6 to target self
button 5 to target party 1
button 4 to target party 2
mouse wheel up dispel party1
mouse wheel down dispel party2
(this way if you’re caught up in targetting DPS 1 for healing, and arena enemy3, for example, for cyclones, then you suddenly need to dispel DPS 2, having the mouse wheel bound that way helps to avoid needing to do thumb gymnastics. Also its faster. Dispelling things quickly is the most important thing other than pillar humping properly.)
then use:
button 9 for target arena1
button 8 for target arena2
button 7 for target arena3
shift-button 9 through 7 for focusing arena1-3
cntrl button 9 through 7 for target arena 1-3 pet.
if you want to really go crazy and bind some things to @arena1-3 go crazy with the 10-11-12 row… I never ended up doing that.
Using the right thumb to target and then pressing cyclone with the left hand is more or less the same as using a shift or control modifier anyways (two buttons to press,) so its not that big of a deal.
If I was you I would use middle mouse or a button above the mouse wheel for trinket, (something I originally saw Reckful do.) Your pointer finger is basically cocked on that button all the time so there’s no fumbling for trinket right from the get go.
Thats because you can just bind them in the targetting section of the menu. You dont technically need macros anymore.
But for example, if you wanted to have a set of macros that just steps to arena1-3 and then makes that person your primary target, you can still use
/target arena1
as a line in a macro
Wow, I just searched it up and it’s $100. Don’t think I can afford that lol
Don’t compromise…
If you start to internalize another way of playing it will only feel harder to start over if and when you eventually get it.
Using the traditional f1-f2-f3 friendly targeting method is brutally hard because you have to stretch your left hand around the keyboard so much,
(and so high up to reach the f row, doing it that way means you basically need to get a mini-keyboard with an F row squished up against the number row, which is uncommon. If you use binds close to the movement keys you’re just taking up space for other abilities that you aren’t re-creating on the mouse with something like a naga. That european spriest who plays with Pojke uses one, its commonly used by pros.)
People using left handed targetting macros have to go twice as fast with their fingers to function in the same way and thats why there is a prevalance of arena 1-3 macros for the left hand only with modifiers. That gets so complicated I can’t imagine playing that way.
After you start grinding that way you’re going to eventually start to feel improvement and you won’t want to go back.
Imo just hold out until you can get 100 dollars bro.
You don’t need a special mouse for targeting members tbh. I use mouse wheel up to target party1 , mouse wheel down for party 2, alt + mouse wheel up to target myself, and alt mouse wheel down for pets.
As long as the consensus is to not start with left handed targeting then I agree.
evrey time this kind of thread comes up i have to chime in that clicking your party frames is just fine. i’ve gotten glad the last 2 seasons on healers just clicking frames.
have focus macros for enemy cc, and other macros, but for targeting i just click party frames like a raid or dungeon
you definitely do not need to buy the $100 mouse, if you are comfortable with something just get better with it.
Yea I tried it with left hand but it just felt weird to target with my keyboard.
I’ll give this a shot.
Mousewheel Up -> Party 1
Mousewheel Down -> Party 2
ctrl Mousewheel Up -> Dispel Party1
ctrl Mousewheel Down -> Dispel Party 2
Click Mousewheel -> Target Self
kinda weird to get used to but i like it.
Thats because you can keybind it in standard keybind options. Naga 1,2,3 is mine same as when playing dps its arena 123 on naga 123
Kekw. Thats why more people play dps than healers amirite? Path of least resistance and all. Its funny cause i always imagined dpsing being infinitely easier (for some classes) because all they have to do is tunnel and can win games because of that. Any class who can one shot (rogues were in that meta. Coincidence maybe?) Really has no room to talk.
Jokes aside…
I use 1 2 and 3 to target myself. Party member 2 and party member 3.
I strong suggest getting the razer Naga if your serious about rankin up. Not a requirement but it seriously does help.
Because of the mouse I dont need to use 123456 and so on other than for targeting. I use shift 123 on my mouse to target enemy players in arena.
As some have said, you can click on party frames and still do it. Its a little clunky but its doable. If you heal rbgs thats prolly your go too. The only time I myself would use mouse over macros is on a class like resto druid where a good chunk of healing is instant. Otherwise because of the cast time of even flash of light, you should have time to click over friendly name plates.
If your experience is limited, I’d try at least 20 games of clicking. 20 games of using keybinds that are easy to reach. And 20 games of mouse over. They all have a different feel to it and I personally believe it is all personal preference
several different ways you can do it, like mouse wheel up, mouse wheel down, and maybe a mouse button for party targets. shift on those for enemy targets.
There are other ways you can do it too, kinda gotta do what feels comfortable with your keybinding philosophy.
i think mouse wheel up/down is the best outside of other really close keys
i do mouse wheel up and down for party members and Esc to target myself, then i use alt 1,2,3 for enemies and shift-alt 1,2,3 to make them focus targets
It’s different depending on what class you’re playing.
Druid needs to target all people because you never know when you might need to clone.
Pally can probably get away with using a focus hoj macro and keeping the other healer on focus. Some people will look at you like you’re retarded if you hoj anything other than the other healer. (Because it’s dispellable, obviously.)
If shaman probably look at binding shear 1-3. Same as Druid but needs to be faster because interrupt. Might not need to target enemy 1-3 constantly because hex has a CD.
I have no idea what monk is all about.
Priests just aoe fear? …have a macro for targeting closest enemy and using death to death things?
Look up help/harm macros for sure.
Smite enemy or flash heal team, rejuvenate friendly or moonfire enemy etc.
Mouse wheel. I use scroll up for arena 1. Push in on the mouse wheel to target myself. And scroll down for arena 3. Been doing this for years and it works well
I use scroll up and scroll down and I use my rude finger to do it . It feels un natural at first to do that but eventually its normal and its a really big advantage to do this because u can put something important on the middle mouse button and always have your finger on it. I put shadow word death on that bind on priest and I put bearform on my druid when I was playing that.
