What keeps us around?

Seriously, in an age of constant daily updates for stuff that doesnt get fixed, poorly delivered bland patches, overhyped expansions that fall on their face, microtransactions for all the cool new mounts and mogs, time gated content, busy work content that means nothing, 3 different tiers of expansion prices for the whales, poorly designed (non in-game store) mounts, transmogs and everything just being recolors. What keeps you playing wow?

Friends and guilds for some and for others, playing the game alone at their own pace.

Some people just want to see where the story goes, and are fine waiting through the time gates.

And some people are collectors who want to keep collecting stuff.

That doesn’t even touch on the folks who keep raiding, pvping, M+ing or RPing.

Hoping one day to delete gnomes.

What keeps me around is that, no matter how much this game makes me hate it, WoW is my only outlet for coping with my anxiety. I’ve been to therapy and even the professionals are at a loss with what to do with me because no conventional coping mechanisms work for me.

Playing WoW while watching a YouTube video is the only thing I have to hold back a panic attack every time I feel one about to start.
Even if I get really angry at the game, at least I am focusing on my hatred instead of my anxiety.

Fun with my stinky character

Imagining him getting kicked out of Ironforge

Imagining him serving gnomes breakfast and doing chores for them

Imagining the gnomes cackling and taking advantage of his love

I can only speak for myself but the mmo genre just isnt that great anymore and wow is just that one game thats not horrible. However, all it would take is a good game and i would never look back.

I’ve been playing since 2004. I’ve played WOW for half my life.

They’ve nearly broken me though with their lack of care and recycled copy paste timegated content.

I still enjoy it. Simple as that. It’s an easy, pretty, soothing escape. And anytime I’m not having fun, I unsub. I come back when new expansions drop/content looks good.

I have nothing better to do. I have no life and WOW is my time killer till its my time for a dirt nap.

sometimes the game has fun moments, but they’re kinda short lived lol
:cherries:

You forgot about constant strangely misplaced priorities, development decisions being solely based on streamers that have no life, and a desperate hanging onto organized premade play in a game where at least 80pct pug.

The ability to not focus all my attention on negative aspects of an overall fun experience. You should try it.

I am the perfect candidate to answer this question.

Simply put, WoW is the best game I have ever played. I stopped playing at the very very end of DF because I too was getting upset at the quality, and yet, its still the best game I have ever played.

Every game I played in my hiatus, from going back to Destiny 2, to replaying a bit of SWTOR, then finishing up Baldurs Gate 3, I found myself just wanting to do things in here.

Like, in Baldurs Gate 3, I picked Ranger of course, and the BM sub class. But, I wanted to skin things. I wanted to fly. I wanted to view my character in different angles easily. In short, I wanted WoW.

So I came back.

Honestly its the combat system. There is just a satisfaction in hitting class buttanz in WoW that isn’t there in a lot of other games. The content can be hit or miss, but if they somehow completely janked up the combat, that would truly kill this game.

Keys are just plain fun. Without m+, I’m out.

This. I have fun playing the game, I wouldn’t stay if I didn’t.

I met my husband playing back in 2006. It’s nostalgia for us and it’s one of those fun, silly things we do when we have free time. We don’t raid or do anything serious like we used to but I’ll probably be here as long as they keep the lights on.

Why are we still here, just to suffer?

I’ve been playing this game since the beginning. It’s hard for me to let it go. Not that I want to either, but it’s something that is just special to my heart.

I used to have friends that play, but they don’t anymore. Mainly just enjoying it by myself and I’m still having a blast.
