What I've learned about Healing in PvP:

So last game I was in was a total buzz-kill.

Most maps seem okay but for some reason “Seething Shore” is a real nuisance for me.

Jonesing for my PvP fix; I entered the match with high hopes… only to seem them quickly burn to mere-cinders when three of the members in my raid stayed in the airship… Deterred but still trying… I noticed that the DPS who had landed didn’t seem to know how to counter a discipline priest. Convinced they were new I offered them the following advice:

“Discipline Priests have high-survivability but low group healing”

moments later a response came as time on the clock dwindled…

“I blame the tard from Warsong”

When that match mercifully ended, the score wasn’t even close. The Alliance had a score of 1,500 resources, and my (new?) team had collected a pathetic 200 resources.

Clearly I must be doing something wrong. What’s going on here?

You’re playing horde. I very rarely win SS as horde.

It looked to me like it was a lack-luster attempt at trying. (It appeared as though the team I was playing with wasn’t even trying.)

There was no communication going on, any attempts at trying to help were returned with a provoked response that implied that I had emotionally hurt them in some way.

Sounds like a typical seething shore game. Everyone hates it so it pretty much just turns into a team deathmatch with no one focusing on the actual objective.

So they rationalize that and that logically gives them the justification to excuse them to not even put forth the effort into playing it? How?

It’s quicker to let your team get rolled over than it is to eat the deserter debuff I guess? Not sure what to tell you. Play rated BGs if you want people to put in more effort.

I don’t want to play Rated Battlegrounds because everyone I play with would rather give-up at the smallest rock in the road instead of enjoying the challenge and the lessons that come should you fail.

You got a bad group. It happens – especially in a BG like Seething Shore, where people having map awareness and the agency to proactively go to empty nodes rather than give the enemy free points are both crucial.

(Small caveat here to say that Discipline does not have “low group healing” whatsoever, between Rapture and Radiance. Twist of Fate synergizes heavily with Radiance, too, making it effectively an AoE Lay on Hands.)

What could you have done differently? Well, like I said, on Seething Shore the most important thing is collecting off-nodes, rather than necessarily winning team fights. With an AFK team, it’s hard, and there’s not much you can do to turn things around except just queuing with other people.

And from the sound of your description of the people you do play with, you’re better off making newer, better friends. Regardless, whether you have friends or not shouldn’t decide whether you attempt RBGs; there are plenty of groups in LFG, especially I imagine on Horde. Participating in RBGs – if that’s what you want to do – will only help your networking.

No… it happens routinely. The horde always has 100 points to 300 or maybe 400 max. It isn’t any individual’s fault. It’s the entire group not working effectively together.

edit: Again; no I still don’t want to do rated battlegrounds with you. But thank you for asking.

It’s a random battleground, so its random. This happens to alliance side too and you saying this is no less ridiculous than alliance players claiming they always lose. Sometimes you get people that just want honor. There are days i lose 10 epics in a row and days i win the first random, epic, and brawl when it is up. Go in to random battlegrounds to try and have fun, not strictly win.

If you are going play randoms to win you need to play with friends, or just do the RBG grind. You’ll eventually find a group that doesn’t care about losing and just wants to farm conq/1600. It’s like playing a random with people that put in the effort you seem to be seeking from randoms.

When a game is losing that badly it’s never any 1 person, I don’t know why people are still in the mindset that there’s someone to be blamed for getting steamrolled, if anything it might be a result of the enemy team having players that can 1v5 players on your team or 90% of your team being ilvl 160 while the other team is 90% ilvl 200. Just let it go when it’s that bad of a stomp…

healing is a thankless job. have you ever notice how its always the healer who complains about performance in pvp while the damage dealer is sweating bullets to stay alife or burst

lmfao what

Bogsy says “It’s a random battleground, so its random.”

My concern is that it seems I only get grouped with people who don’t care about actually contributing to the over-all gameplay experience of others. I don’t care about winning or losing, I want actual games, not ones filled with people who aren’t even bold enough to try; or find some reason they think excuses them from trying. I shouldn’t need to play with a group in random battlegrounds.

Ophlaria says “when a game is losing that badly it’s never any 1 person.”

I agree with her. This is a huge problem for me because I can’t seem to find a match that I actually thoroughly enjoy playing, they seem to see my name and just quit playing.

Tlaloc says “healing is a thankless job…”
I’ve never complained about someone else’s performance. I know that this game is filled with new players, and that isn’t the problem I am having.

So is there some sort of way you can separate the people who don’t actually want to contribute to the overall gameplay mechanics and others who are looking for an actual match? I’m trying to find a random battleground match I’m not looking for a date. I’m far too cynical.

The experience you seek is in YOLO RBGs. Not everyone is a quitting, raging, tryhard that leaves after one game. Many yolo groups are fun and people will laugh at getting blown up and trying to improve in the next match.

If you want actual games with people that contribute, odds are you won’t find it in a random queue. All you need to do is approach RBGs like random bgs with people that are actually contributing. Best of luck out there.

Funny. I’m on alliance and of all my SS matches, i think I only have two wins. Which were hard won.

@OP

I’m with you. I have no idea how we win either. Every time I try to get to my team, or incoming nodes… I get steamrolled. It’s like if you’re team doesn’t stay together (5+ per node) you have no chance of winning.

@Bogsy: again you say that then promptly don’t contribute anything to the overall discussion of the tread.

:microscope: I think I’m on to someting.

:eagle:

I’m trying to let you know looking for team work in a random bg is completely out of your control. It seems like all you want to do is random queue so i will leave you to it. Your experience isn’t unique to you or the horde.

I offered you a solution to:

I want actual games, not ones filled with people who aren’t even bold enough to try

This isn’t happening in random bgs friend.

Well… like I said… not when it is evidently a problem this bad.

I’m not your friend, I have no idea who you are. We clearly aren’t friends.
