What item tiers are worth upgrading?

Just champion? Anything purple? Also why do some take Weathered Harbinger Crests and others take Carved Harbinger Crests? Is there a logic to which items take which?

any of them you can upgrade if you’re wiping to enrage.

Hero and Myth, Champion as well if you don’t have gilded crests on farm yet since at that point Hero gear is also just Champion gear.

Depends on the content you’re doing (mainly what crests you’re earning).

My content level is Timewalking/Heroics, LFR, and Delves (currently level 8).

So upgrade your Hero and Champion gear to item level 619.

When you say “Hero” do you mean “Veteran” or is there a level above Champion?

The way upgrades work you can’t waste crests upgrading the same ilvl on a slot twice. If you upgrade an item to X ilvl then get another item for that slot, upgrading it to X again won’t cost crests.

This is based on the item level you’re attempting to upgrade to. Weathered allows upgrades to 593, carved to 606, runed to 619, and gilded to 639.

I know it seems convoluted at first, but the whole system (With the exception of Valorstones) is set up in the way to create the least friction / make upgrading items you have the correct choice in as many situations as possible.

There are 5, adventurer, veteran, champion, hero, and myth.

Champion/hero. Be warned that the system is heavily pushing you doing m+ for crests sooner or later you will have to do m+ for the crests otherwise you can keep spaming +8 for 2 crests everytime until cap I don’t know anyone that has done this yet… (don’t be the first one)

oh, I see. I haven’t come into contact with Hero or Mythic level gear pieces yet. Thanks for the clarification :sparkling_heart:

Do you know if voidweaver is bugged or not on live? Some saying the recent buffs from 2 weeks ago aren’t live

The idea is that each content difficulty has an upgrade track associated to it, as well as a crest type. Each track is aimed at providing you an upgrade path with the crest type the content you got it from, as well as a few extra levels that require the higher crest type, so that when / if you acquire those crests you have something to use them on to increase your power level without necessarily needing a full set of new items.

For example, champion gear starts at 597 1/8 and can drop / be upgraded as much as 619 8/8. Upgrading to 606 costs carved crests, but 610 onwards costs runed, which comes from harder content than carved.

So it’s fine to just upgrade a slot if you haven’t already no matter what?

Somewhat off topic, the initial patch launch failed to merge the original VW buffs from a few weeks ago. This was fixed within a few hours of the patch going live on NA. Everything is fine now.

Basically the only crests worth holding at this point are Gilded for High Hero/Myth Track gear.

We’re currently at the level of crests where you can more or less max out the lower crests and upgrade all your gear without having to worry about inefficient upgrades (i.e. upgrading a trinket to 619 and then looting a better version of it)

Hero is above Champion and is rewarded out of the Great Vault for completing Tier 8 delves, which you said you do.

I just got to that level of content today so I haven’t had time to get anything from it Vault-wise. lol

Generally yes, the only exception is if you expect to acquire an item on that slot at an outright higher ilvl, AND value the crests you would save by doing so.

Example: Say you have a pair of 606 4/8 champion shoulders, you can spend 60 runed crests upgrading them 4 times to 619.

If you were to somehow acquire a pair of 616 shoulders, either from a raid or a weekly vault, you’d only need to spend 15 runed crests to upgrade them to 619, and any shoulders you already owned or would get after also wouldn’t cost any crests to raise to that ilvl.

In short, crests upgrade slots as well as items, so jumping ilvl without upgrading will save you crests.
