What item level should you get for your legendary?

Hi all, I am ready to get my first legendary on my priest. When I look at the ah at thr base gear, I see different I-levels, does the level matter? Right now I have 5k soul ash on that toon (not sure if that matters). Should I spend the gold and get the max level? What is the best thing to do? Any advice would be great. Thanks.

If you have the resources then yeah just upgrade it completely so you don’t have to do it later. IIRC they’ll be adding more upgrades for it later in a future patch so it might be best just to max it right now.

I bought a 235 Legendary off the player that made it. Well worth the gold but damn it I cannot mog it to Hidden Helm.

I like showing off my pretty Vulpera face. Now I look like the damn Lich King.

the higher item level the base item is, the more powerful the crafted legendary will be.

but keep in mind the higher item level, the more soul ash it will cost, so if you want to craft multiple legendaries just keep that in mind.

It is only a matter of how much money you want to spend.

The soul ash cost of upgrading one level at a time to max is the same as just buying 235 directly.

The missives you only have to buy once.

The base item, that sets its item level, is what you have to repeat buy.

So buying them all in series is way more gold than just buying the best one. But the best ones are expansive so it’s a question of how much you want to spend.

Only the stats change with item level. The legendary effect is the same.

Depends on what you are going for, some of the items aren’t too costly to buy so getting each rank is fine and doesn’t cost too much.

The only real change in investment is just that gold cost.
If you have the soul ash though and know the one you want you can feel free to go straight for the highest rank. But if you play multiple roles or have multiple pieces you would like it might be worth getting a couple lower level ones and then upgrading them later.

Dammit, beat me to it :joy:

You can.

Oh thanks, I thought I could just buy the max level and be done. So is it that I have to buy the 190, then buy the next level when I’m ready to upgrade?

You can buy the max level and be done.

That is the cheapest overall and if you have the money and want to spend the soul ash that is the best way. It’s cheapest because you have to re-buy the white base item every time.

I was just saying if in did upgrade it several times you don’t lose or waste soul ash. It’s the same amount if you bought various items levels as it is just buying the 235 one.

Thanks so much, so does it work that at 190 it will ask for a certain amount of soul ash, and then each level it would be more, but if I got the 235 one, then it will just ask for the total amount? So I guess I would have to think about if I want to play with one Lego pay it all upfront, but if I want to have more, just start with the 190?

Raise a ticket. I can mog mine to hidden. You’ve got a glitch.

Yes exactly for soul ash.

You have to buy a new white base item every time which is where the gold cost comes from. So if you are eventually taking it to 235 it can be “cheaper” to go straight, but man they can be expensive. I only have a 235 on my main spec because I’m poor :frowning:

The 2 missives that pick your stats cannot be changed after you make it the first time so that is a 1 time gold fee.

Think about it this way:

It costs 5150 soul ash to craft one rank 4 legendary.

For that ~same amount of soul ash, you could craft:

  • one rank 3 and one rank 2
  • two rank 2 and one rank 1

You’re bugged. The legendaries are absolutely able to be transmogged over and hidden.

Always try to get 235 IMO. If money is not a issue for a particular item but make sure you’re getting the right Legendary that will work for you (Or by advice by the majority.) It helps not spending more later because you bought a a tier lower or so and not having to pay basically half or quarter more upgrading later.
